I think Sarahrd makes some good points. I think the trouble is that these drinks are so common. I have seen some of them given out at the lunch line at school

I think that the water recommendation for kids ages 4-8 needs clarification. The IOM set the DRI for water for that age group at 1.7 liters per day, which is approximately 60 oz/day as the author indicates. But if you read the chart, it explains that 20% of this total water requirement is expected to come from the moisture content of foods, and the rest can come from all beverages. As registered dietitians, we generally recommend at least half of the beverages be pure water. So that is really more like three 8 oz cups of water for a 4-8 year old child plus another 24 oz from non fat milk and the limited amount of 100% juice. I have children ages 4 and 7, and they would never drink 60 oz of water in a day!

The 10% calcium is actually based on the %DV (1000 mg) not the 2,000 kcals/day.
