(or is already here) when you can self-diagnose a lot of ailments (not all, of course) by cross-checking your symptoms with information you can find on the Internet. You can spend hours doing this from multiple sources rather than relying only on your doctor making fast guesses in the few minutes per appointment that he/she can give you.

Oh, but self-diagnosis is DANGEROUS, they will say. Yes, it can be. But so is getting mis-diagnosed by a doctor. You have a right, a modern opportunity, and a duty to yourself to double-check, double-check, double-check.

The time is also coming when your doctor will be entering your symptoms into cross-checks of information on the Internet.

THAT is what electronic medical records and comparative effectiveness research are all about. Just think where we are with this compared to 20 or 30 years ago.
