After triple bypass surgery,in addition to prescribed meds my doctor told me to also take aspirin.

Shortly after starting the required meds I started getting a swelling of my hands , my neck,& my cheek & tongue.I then was told to stop each of my prescriptions for a week.

I stopped each for week. That covered 4 weeks. Then I was sent to an allergist to see what I might be allergic to...The swellings persisted.

I then went to the Mayo Clinics web site & entered aspirin.

The site told me that 2 in a thousand get the side effects from Aspirin that I suffered.

I consulted with my heart doctor & was taken off aspirin & prescribed The blood thinner Plavix...That's a $3.00 pill instead of a 10 cent pill.

It is now 8 years later & I never had a recurrence of the swelling.

What disturbed me is that all the doctors I consulted never suspected aspirin.

I have taken aspirin faithfully through the years, always being careful of side affects. It seems this is the one and only product safe guarded with decades (centuries) of use so we know what to expect. Not to be pulled off the shelf because of some unknown side effect through lack of long term use.
