People rush to India, Thailand and South Africa due to high rate difference i.e, cost on these countries can be one-tenth, or less, of what it is in the United States and Western Europe. People also have advantages like the short waits, skilled care and the chance to recuperate in luxury. People also do the medical travel due to inefficient medical facility in their country.

I had a good experience getting a Lap band procedure done in thailand. Initially I was a little apprehensive but once I landed at the hospital, the experience turned out really well. The doctors were very professional and the infrastructure was impressive. I took help from folks at http://www.thaimedihealth.com and they helped me arrange the treatment and stay in Bangkok. Its been 12 months now and I look great. I wish the doctors and the staff success. Definitely visit Pattaya and Phuket if you get a chance. Forgot to mention that Bangkok is shopper's paradise.

There is a difference between organ transplant tourism and health service providers outsourcing medical services abroad. For example, the British NHS has a programme to outsource certain medical procedures in the rest of Europe. And in the abstract of a paid for paper, Dr K. A Bramstedt et al (Pubmed), in Ethics Corner American Journal of Transplantation (July 2007), write about the various insurance programmes in the US who encourage policy holders to travel abroad.
