On Nutrition: Need To Lose Weight? Try Fasting

I have been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance, not PRE-diabetes, which I understand may be the same or similar . My blood glucose is borderline and my A1C is not considered to be in the diabetic level. I have been prescribed Metformin

Twice daily.

If I follow the occasional fasting diet, skipping meals or fasting for a day or so as described in the above reading on fasting and weight loss, would I skip the Metformin at those times? I must admit there are many times that I am not at all hungry for a meal, but have been told of the importance of regular meals, not skipping breakfast, etc. At those times, when I eat even a snack of fruit, my appetite is so stimulated. I have trouble stopping to eat. I would appreciate your response.

Not true about fasting studies done mostly on animals. In Russia there are medical clinics (Nutritional institute) where people do water fasts for up to 21 days under medical supervision. Done 7-day water fasts many times, you just have to start and break it properly (do not overeat, no animal products, etc.)

i HAVE FASTED FOR 6 DAYS BEFORE AND FOUND THAT THE THIRD AND FOURTH DAY IS HARD BUT THE OTHR DAYS ARE FINE. AFTER THE FOURTH DAY ONE CAN GO FOR 10 OR 12 DAYS EASY. fORGET ABOUT ALL THE TALK ABOUT YOU NOT BEING ABLE TO DO IT. jUST DO IT. THE YOUNGER YOU ARE THE MORE POUNDS YOU WILL LOSE. I'M 76 AND PLAN TO DO IT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. IT'S EXACTLY HOW OUR ANCESTORS DID IT EVERY DAY.

I've personally seen amazing results in gaining more energy, cleansing the body of impurities and understanding more the difference between hunger and cravings as I fast. Thanks for the article! http://nutritionprinciples.com

fasting gets a bad rap, you really need to listen to your body when you do it, if your feel naseau, headaches, unusually tired, then you need to eat.

ghandi was an avid faster and also used fasting for political motivation.

i kind of wonder if a study were to be done based on how long someone can survive without food if fat or skinny people are different. ie. fat people being able to withstand longer time periods without food. its def not something to do all the time. if i believe correctly generaly people become emaciated before not eating becomes dangerous, its not an unhealthy thing to do for short periods if your overweight, it is dangerous when you reach below your normal hieght/weight range minimum.
