Anal Cancer Surviver
I am truly amazed by the bickering about whether anal sex is ok or not. I want to pass along this bit of info from someone whose been through hell and back to beat anal cancer, and no amount of so called pleasure is worth going through what I've been through. I was diagnosed at the age of 42 and had never had anal sex or HPV, and I had been married for 21 years. By the time it was diagnosed, it was already Stage 3 which means its in the lymph nodes, so Chemo & Radiation at the same time was the recommended treatment. Radiation to your groin area is like taking a blow torch and holding it a few inches away until the first layer of skin basically melts off. Trying to pee is like throwing acid onto the already burning raw skin. It stays raw & oozing during the radiation to the point that you cant wear underwear or clothes...I worn big lose skirts to radiation with no underwear. They made me try to soak it in a tub of cool water, but I would scream trying to lower myself into that water that felt like burning acid. I couldnt wipe my rear after a bowel movement because it hurt too bad...even baby wipes stung & brought tears to my eyes. And the pain was this bad on 50mg of methadone per day. After the treatments were over, I couldnt go back to normal sex with my husband because the radiation burned my female organs & hardened my vagina. I became menopausal at 42 with full blown hot flashes/night sweats. I developed cellulitis in my groin area which breaks out causing hard lumps & scar tissue in my vulvar area and inside my thighs which is a side affect of the radiation.
Now I ask you...do you still feel the same way about taking the risk with anal sex? When the surveys show it can lead to anal cancer...I would turn & run as fast as I could. You do NOT want to go thru the hell I went through just for sex.
rectal-anal cancer
I am a 57 year old woman who was just diagnosed with rectal-anal cancer.. Reanding about the risk factors, I don't fit one.. I'm a non-smoker, do not have HPV or HIV and have been married to the same man for forty years and anal sex has never been part of our intimacy.. So I strongly suggest that all men and women get checked even if they don't fit the profile!! I have grim genetics when it comes to abdominal problems.. In addition, my Dr. found severe Chrones disease and ileitis and diverticulosis.. The last 20 years of my Dads life, he lived with a colostomy bag due to severe colitis and having to have most of his colon removed.. Also my grandmother died of colo-rectal cancer at the age of 62. So there is no baseline age and if these things run in your family, get checked!! My Dr. says my cancer is in early stages and pray that I will be one of the success stories.. I hope my story helps people out there that are vacilating about getting screened..

Anal Cancer/Anal Sex
I'm not being funny here.....I'm glad, Deborah, that you brought this topic up. I wanted to ask you if you've had anal sex and if so, did you enjoy it? Would you come out and say that people should not have anal sex?
