Depo

Im from the UK and have been on the depo twice, once when i was younger and then i started it again 3 years ago. At first I didnt think any of my problems were related to the Depo, but as I have began to research more into I am shocked at what I have discovered. I assumed because I had no side effects when younger, I wouldnt have now, I couldnt be more wrong. I have been suffering with weight gain, oily skn and fatigue for well over 12 months, however I never attributed this to the Depo. After reading what I have on the nternet I am now 100% sure that the Depo has been causing this. I was already planning on coming off of the Depo next month when Im due to have it, because I have been stuggling to lose the weight Ive ganed despite following the Weight Watchers Programme - I just stay the same weight, and its really difficult to lose weight despite being disciplined and exercising. I will not be recommending this to anyone, and Im shocked I was never informed of an of these side effects by the clinic.

6 years and Bam

Ive been using depo provera for over 5 years, and in the last I have gained 30 lbs!Honestly, I have not changed my eating habits. I've never been thin, but this is alarming. My doctor says its def the depo-provera. :(

I do hope this research results in answers because I do love everthing else about it & and I am still not ready to have kids!

Depo and weight gain.

I was on depo for over 5 years. It caused me to gain over 40lbs. I was a slob. My doc took me off of it finally and when my periods came back, the weight just fell off. Im back to my orginal weight pre depo, I'm sorry but gaining that much weight is not worth the advantages such as no periods and only having to get it once every 3 months. I swear by condoms now, and seeing the rate of std's are riduculous.. i think condoms are every womens best bet

OTHER OPTIONS

for those of you who have had a baby, and want another bc...try the Mirena. I was on it before the depo, and something happened and it fell out. so while my doctor was waiting on the Mirena (they had to order where I live) I started the depo. And Ive gained 20 lbs!

Im getting off this stupid shot and going back to the Mirena. I had the mirena for 10 mo after my daught, lost ALL 50 lbs of my baby weight with no work! But now Im 20 lbs heavier. I hate the deop! Get the Mirena!!!!

do NOT get the depo!

Ive been on this shot for a little over a year. I wasnt planning out getting it when I went to the doctor, so I had not done any research on it. Since I have been on the depo, I have gained 21 lbs. I asked my doctor at my last appt why I was gaining so much weight, and she said "Oh, you didnt know? Its normal to gain around 15 lbs a year on this." When I first got the shot, I asked the (other) doctor if I was going to gain weight, she said no. Now I am learning that it will be nearly impossible to lose the wright Ive gained in less than a year. I have always been on the skinny side. So gaining weight is not typical for me! Do NOT get this shot!! I was less than 110 lbs before this, and now Im pushing 130. So I do not recommend this to anyone! Also, another side effect I was told of at my last appt was fatigue. This, too, has been a major problem. So, once this injection wears off, Im switching birth controls!

:-(

I started to depo shot 6 months ago. At about 4 1/2 months I was experiencing excrutating leg pain and my ovaries were huge. They were swollen and it hurt to even wear jeans. I went to the doctor and she said it was a side effect. It also triggered my migranes. The first 3 months were great and I wasn't understanding all the hype around the shot...well here I am 3 months later and have gained 30 pounds. The pain has gone away, but my sex drive is gone and this weight gain has taken a toll on me. I am only 21 and just in shock that it made me gain that much within 6 months. I didn't get the shot again and I have always exercised and monitored what I ate...I DONT suggest this at all.
