Individual rights
It is amazing that people who supported conscientious objectors who did not want to defend our country in war are now perfectly willing to force people to commit what they consider to be murder.
Without mutual respect, this issue will tear our country apart and there will never be a resolution.
As an OBGYN I have never seen anyone who was EVER FORCED to perform an abortion. I think those of who do perform the abortions are the ones who need the protection. I have to fight everyday to make sure my patients have access to a full compliment of their LEGAL rights. I would like someone protecting me and my line of work for a change.
BS
This ticks me. They know that they cant just take it in front of our face so their coming up from beneath us and taking it anyway. And by it I mean our freedom as women. We are not all catholic and we are not all against abortion personally I would never abort a child of mine. Even through rape etc. but I believe other women have the right to choose for theirself what is right. And they think teen pregnancy is a problem I just turned 18 and I put myself on bc because I know I am not ready for a child finacially or mentally. If you want less teen pregnancies I suggest they better start handing it out like candy. Our society is so corrupt and full of shit ugh. Im only a kid and I can see things need to chang and this is minor but our population is so high already. I wish I had an answer. Just let me think on it for a while then maybe I can come up with someething.
Bush's last attempt to look like he achieved something...
Bush has become so unpopular he has lost the support of even the right wingers...I see this as his last attempt to be respected for something by the right wing right to lifers...Where I live, Olympia Wa, we recently had a privately owned supermarket chain, which has a pharmacy attached to one of the stores, take a political/religious stance and refuse to dispense the "Day After" pill...This business and another of his stores, down town were picketed and boycotted for months. I know they had to loose money because a lot of liberals, who are also upper class "Right to Choose" customer base stopped shopping at these stores. In fact these stores actually cater to the more affluent natural foods customers...The owner, who is Catholic, said it was his "Civil Right" to refuse to provide the day after pill! This caused a lot of division in the community, and since Olympia has a very large affluent, educated liberal community eventually this owner would go out of business...His Right to Lifers, support system would eventually get tired of shopping at his higher priced market and go back to Walmart for their bargains...The outcome, thus far in Washington came to an end when the Governor actually told the owner that he had to provide this by Washington state, law decree...There was cries of outrage, and a lot of material for the only local syndicated daily newspaper, The Daily Olympian to feed it's conservative ran agenda to it's conservative vocal readers...Who by the way, mostly do not live in Olympia, but in Lacey, which is mostly a transient, or retired military community close to Ft.Lewis...I have to add that in Washington state our democrat governor was reelected, even though she is not popular with most liberals, and we had another landslide democrat election...Another side note is that if Obama doesn't block this, in a timely manner, I know what will go on here, boycotts, and lots of protests. If the right to lifers really want to experience the shoe on the other foot, they will get to experience freedom of speech harassment like their abortion clinic pickets..There will see, huge, pro choice protests, outside of clinics, pharmacies, grocery stores, doctors office with signs and zealots yelling their slogans These people want to blur the line between their religion and state...They want to legally impose their religious beliefs on every citizen in the US...We are not making them use birth control, have sex, abortions, restrict their personal religious beliefs in any way shape or form, we are only trying to keep this country free by respecting the rights of everyone, even those who go against our personal values...We want them to be able to choose what is right for them, not enforce our personal or religious beliefs on them...This is the main huge big giant difference....Oppression, torture, war, slavery, all forms of evil have been and are still being done in the name of God and religion, their religion that is, be it Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Hindu, etc...they all have their agenda, and that is, that their God or Gods are the true one, and that they are in the right and have to convert/control by hook or crook all the non believers...Religions, to me are or can be just as bad as any corrupt politician, communism, socialism or any ism that has ever been...America will only stay semi free if we hold to the separation of church and state...
Do it right the first time.
Why do we keep mixing apples and oranges and complicate every issue. We must be able to exercise our beliefs, but that means we must acknowledge, register, and stand up for them, it’s called being responsible. At the same time if the job REQUIRES that you lift 50 lbs., work in smelly conditions, or assist or administer specific actions, then that must be stated too. That way employment is not denied and you aren’t get fired for your beliefs. When requirements change then publish it and assist the individual in honoring their beliefs.
Maybe those that take the Hippocratic Oath or any oath should read them as a singular instrument. Does it say if God or the State permits? No, it stands alone. You hear about doctors fighting against insurance companies and supposedly advocating for their patients. The same thing is true of religious and state issue.
It is being pushed more and more that a company must provide the reason for refusing to provide advertised actions and sometimes they must justify why they are doing it. That must apply to all businesses and those individuals that are in fact their own business. That applies to most professional and degreed individuals.
Morality changes with every individual and it is about time that we stop trying to control what other individuals feel and think. Just think what you can lose when the wind changes and it always does. I would rather see the effort put towards passing rules, regulations, and laws that stresses transparency and responsibility.
YAY More mistakes in the world
Religion and medicine/law/education are not supposed to mix. If you cant handle it, then you are in the wrong field. People come to you, not for your opinon. They could give 2 shats about what you think. They come for your abilites. If you cant do it, get out of the playing field. YOU have no RIGHT to limit people like that.
Next I guess they will be refusing to do blood transfusions or even heart operations because of their religion. This extreme right-wing bs needs to go back up into the butt of the now dead Paul Weyrich and stay there.
