I had the first two and developed a severe allergic reaction a absoulutely horrid hives rash all over my body. I was not allowed to have the third one as the doctors believed that the rash would spread to the inside of my throat and i would suffocate.

No more shots

Our daughter (12) got a gardasil shot two days ago. She fainted immediately and for the next 3 hours she had cramps (urge to laugh hard and cry). After half an hour she started to have difficulty breathing. She had to be hospitalised. She ssems fine now and we sincerely hope this will stay that way. But we will certainly not go for the next shots.

Gardisil Urgent

I am on my way to the emergency room with my neice she is 16 yrs old and we are in Oceanside CA. She just had her third shot on Tues. right now she has swollen neck and face, severe full body rash, trouble breathing and fever. Urgent care sent us here to er. All who think this is safe please read. This is a ridiculous incident that never should of happened. Our doctors and medical panels for the CDC are out of control and totally incompetetant. Do some research before you listen to anybody. They really don't know about these things.Please Please keep us in your prayers.

My eighteen-year old daughter is not getting the vaccine. She is not sexually active and doesn't intend to be until marriage. Even if that doesn't happen, or if her future husband has been sexually active, then she will have to decide what to do at that time. There should be lots more information by then.

I won't let my daughter take the last two

After obtaining the first shot,my daughter (15) called me at work to say that she had swelling on her arm where she got the shot. I thought that was normal and wasn't alarmed. When I got home, I saw that she had a knot the size of a softball on her arm, I called the emergency room (Friday) and they told me if it did not go down by Monday to take her to her PCP.

It did go down but as soon as it did, she developed rashes which appeared to be exzema. I took her to her pediatrician, who said it was not exzema but some other rash. She was prescribed a sterioid cream, which still left scars. It is one year later and she still has terrible rashes, mostly on her arms and elbows. None of which she had before receiving the vaccine. She also complains of headaches on a daily basis (sometimes for maybe a two week period).

I did not fully understand that this was a new vaccine as my daughter received it at a regular school physical. I work at a Health Care facility and will not let her take the reamining two shots.

Your child trust you, when you allow him or her to be injected without having read everything possib le on that vacine, you are endangering your child. God has entrusted that child to you, He will not hold you harmless for the things you do or allow to be done to that child that hurt him or her. My son has 90% of the symptoms your listing

In response to the last comment. I'm sorry your daughter has had so many bad symptoms although I disagree that all could be caused by the vaccine as my son has had many of the symptoms your are reporting and he is 12yrs old and never received the vaccine. Of course excluding the menstrual period symptoms. Children go through a lot of vague symptoms growing up and yes, maybe some could have been caused by this vaccine.

I have HPV. I got it much later in life. My physician said my body was acting like a teenage girl who just got it. I cleared it after having 2 surgeries. It was an agressive high risk type and if I had gotten this when I was a teenager or in my 20's I would be dead right now.

I am an oncology nurse and home care nurse and have worked with numerous women who had contracted HPV when they were younger and are now dying of cervical cancer in there 30's. It is painful and it is heartbreaking and it will be an epidemic throughout the world. This vaccine has huge life saving abilities although I agree nothing is without side effects and some problems. I, too, would be very careful and research something before having my kids subjected to it. Sometimes the benefits of things outweigh the risks. So many young women are sexually active and this is a extremely common STD. The literature shows that the vaccine is most affective when given to children of this age group. If given later it is not as effective. If given at my age it is not affective at all. Also, people can have potential allergies to any number of over the counter drugs and have the same life threatening reactions in which you are speaking of although we think little of giving our children cough medicine and other medications. Think about it.

First of all parents should use their own common knowledge about giving a young child a shot like that regardless of what the pediatrician recommends. I have a 9 year old and getting her that shot has never crossed my mind and thank God after reading these sad articles.

Not yet ready for prime time

There is one and only one reason that Gardasil is being pushed so forcefully and rapidly (as the first mandatory vaccination for a sexually transmitted disease): to maximize profits before competition can lower prices for the vaccine.

Plenty of money has also flowed to advocacy groups, medical professionals and elected officials to buy support for this blitzkrieg roll-out. But the most sickening thing has been the cynical willingness to use the death rates of poor women in the third world in pushing Gardasil sales. As if vaccinating middle-class American girls is going to save their lives.

A principled and careful introduction of this vaccine would determine how long protection lasts, side-effects in the larger population, and unintended consequences (Do other HPV strains become more common? When protection wears off, do women get worse infections?). But that would be slow and not result in the "blockbuster" drug Merck wants.
