Reality Check for HPV Vaccine: Allergic Reactions and More

Kamily is right on. I thankfully did NOT allow my daughter to get this shot, just 2 months after is was approved, becuase my nursing/mother intuition told me something just wasn't right. It breaks my heart to hear these mothers, and young women talk about their diffuculties because of this shot.

It is recommended to these girls as young as 9. And they are NOT routinely testing these girls/young women for the HPV virus prior to giving the shot. But if ANY one of these girls, and soon to be boys, have ever had a wart, they've already been exposed.

And as a nurse, mother, women I am sorry that anyone has to go through dealing with cervical cancer. BUT as a nurse, mother, woman you can't ask if they were overweight, if they had a pap smear EVERY year, if they had multiple sex partners, if they smoked what their nutritional status was, or even if they had any other sexually transmitted disease. All are risk factors for cervical cancer. A doctor with the CDC has gone on record to say that the single most important risk factor is NOT getting routine pap smears.

This isn't about little girls and what their future risk might be, this is a pharmaceutical company trying to recoup losses from other major drugs being pulled from the market. Talk about rumor mongering. . .what better rumor than to spark fear in the minds of many with a "disease" that strikes LESS THAN 1 PERCENT of American women.

WOW

I am 15 years old. And i have been doing a research paper on vaccines and I came across this article. after this vaccine became available my parents did a lot of research and they asked friends whos daughters had gotton the vaccine. One family I met personally had a 14 year old daughter she was perfectly healthy until she got the vaccine. Now she is paralyzed for life.

I personaly do not want to get a vaccine that has these kind of side affects. I am thankful that my parents decided not to have me vaccinated.

Research gardisil vaccine- make informed decision

While researching information on this topic to provide information, this article increased my awareness and curiosity to know more. I am a student nurse and advocate health promotion. I am equally concerned with being informed. According to VRAN (vaccination risk awareness network) as of july 3, 2008 15 girls have died, 159 disabled, 255 hospitalized and 8,838 REPORTED incidents. It was cited there is a 44.6% increase in cervical cancer if vaccine given to a sero-positive HPV pt. Pre-screening for HPV virus is not included prior to vaccination. (important for girls already sexually active prior to vaccination)

Desiring to protect ourselves and loved ones includes obtaining multiple sources of information and then making the best decision we can at the time based on what we knew then.

Kamily's right. This blog isn't about correcting someone's spelling or grammar. It is about discussing your opinions and personal experiences. I'd like to remind everyone that we should be respectful of others when sharing our views. The vaccine issue is a tricky one--particularly in terms of determining whether adverse events that occurred after vaccination were truly caused by the vaccine. I am continuing to do research and reporting on this and will keep updating you all. In the meantime, keep your comments coming sans the name calling. Thanks!

Im not a rumor mongerer. Im a parent of a child that has been lied to by a pharmaceutical company and the doctors that administered the vaccine. Merck needs to admit that the vaccine is pure poison and make it right with all of the young girls that they have damaged. If you dont think its poison, do some research on the ingredients.

I have spent a lot of time researching this vaccine. I have spoke to a lot of mothers and family members. Ive heard the horror stories about the severe health problems these young girls have suffered. If I can keep one girl from getting the vaccine, then I have done my job as a mother.

As for my grammar, this blog isnt about that. There are other important things to worry about than someones grammar, spelling or whatever.

Yes my daughter started her period at age 10. I was 9 and so was my sister. Yes, it can happen!

A child can be held back for missing too many days of school. You have to appear in front of the judge. Its the courts decision.

Its your decision if you allow your daughters to get the vaccine. I just hope you can live with the consequences.

omg

Kamily828 of TN,

You sound like the biggest liar ever. Honestly. You have dreadful grammar for a parent for one thing. And your daughter got her period at 10? Could happen I suppose.. And an 11 year old would not get failed for missing 30 days of school, that would apply to seniors only. LIES YOU RUMOUR MONGERER!

It hurts soo badly.. you get over it.

You are wrong

"They do not give it to girls as young as 9 and if they do the clinic doing it should read the suggested age. The age is between 11 and 26."

Well I hate to tell you that you are wrong.

From the Gardasil website:

GARDASIL is for girls and young women ages 9 to 26.

My 12 year old daughter will not be receiving this vaccination that is planned through her school this October. Some of the side effects of this vaccine are horrendous and there is no evidence of its effectiveness, how long it lasts or what the longer term effects may be. Indeed by the time she is sexually active, the vaccine may have worn off!! All the advertising regarding this vaccine is intended to frighten us into beleiving we are bad parents if we do not want to protect our children from Cancer. Of course, none of us wish to see any loved ones get Cancer, but many individuals who have the HPV virus do not go on to develop cervical cancer. I choose to do my own research on this matter and not be bullied into another vaccination programme for my children because the government tell me it is the right thing to do. When I feel the time is right I will educate my daughter about the risks of promiscuity and unprotected sex and will certainly not frighten her with threats of impending death if she were not to receive this vaccine.

I think the vaccine is a good thing. They do not give it to girls as young as 9 and if they do the clinic doing it should read the suggested age. The age is between 11 and 26. There is now way to prove that these serious side effect s are caused by the vaccine, unless of course if the side effects happen almost immediately. Joint pain, nausea, and fatigue can be a side effect to any vaccine. We still vaccinate our babies who i am sure are sore for days after but we just do not know it. I personally have seen a women come into the OB/GYN office where I work and she has has a severe case of cervical cancer, she was 26. Her pap smear came back abnormal and 2 months later she came in for a biopsy. At that time the cervix was covered in cancer growth, it was unrecognizable. That lady did not make it to her 27th birthday. All this because of a virus (HPV) that now can be prevented.

I say unless they can prove that the serious side effects are caused by the vaccine and not something like a hormonal problem that would have happened vaccine or not, it is worth the risk.
