Say No To The "Ideal" Image
In my opinion women are too concerned about their body image these days. They look at a model or actress and say "I wish my skin was that perfect" "I want longer slimer legs" or "I'm so fat" The truth is 99 pecent of the models you see on magazine covers are all created by doezens of hairstylists, makeup artists and airbrushing. Only 8 out of 13 million of us can actually look like that. So this a message I want every person to hear who are dissatified with their appearance: You're beautiful the way God created you. It's true. I also think curves are much more beautiful and feminie than an unhealthily thin, shapeless body. But do you really want to be so skinny you're bones stick. I don't think so! Models are the ones with the real imperfections, they're extremely bony!
Dara
Dara Torres was raised in a very wealthy family in Beverly Hills. She is very lucky because she has the money and the time to commit to training and developing a very strong body. Many American woman would like to look like that but do not have the time and money to do so.
well i came upon this artical trying to find what is the average of american woman. I dont want perfection...although i would take it.. just to be average...
average woman 140 for 5'4
ittle bit on pudgy size, i dont think fat.
And to be honest, yeah i have to agree Cindy crawford looks better and is my ideal rather than rosie o donnel
But when someone uses the term "Hot"/ i think of Paris hilton and sadly she is a great example of what is wrong with this country. She is scrawny. Not shapley as in Cindy Crawford.. No curves no breast no ass.. Come on we are not supposed to look like twigs. There are women who are not well endowed and I am not speaking of them. Paris Hilton herself had a chest before she starved her self down to twigtom.. And it is sad, because a child with healthy eating habbits who excercises will look at her and think she is fat when Paris is simple underweight.
and to be blunt, the tone of the aurthor suggest she thinks she is supperior to other woman who arent as in shape as she is........... If the way you judge yourself and others is by physically appearance, well it is you that comes up lacking
You go girl!
I am athletic, but not in Dara's class- then again, if I were in her class, I would be an Olympian.
I would love to look like Dara, but I know how much work goes into that. If I did the work, I could have the results. As it is- I run and do pilates several times a week, and that is what I look like I do. And I am very happy with that. My clothes fit my body, and I am strong enough to do the things I need and want to do. We need to focus on the work required. I agree that if you aren't happy with your body, then only YOU can do something about it. But, only YOU can allow yourself to feel unhappy. If you don't want to do the work, find a way to be happy with what you have.
I am not saying I didn't add some extra core training into my routine after watching people like Dara or Kerri Walsh. Then again, that is why they are role models! It is certainly something to keep in mind when I feel like quitting half way through my core trainig class.
Go Dara Go
I think that any one that says her body is 'disgusting' are just jelouse of her. I know I am. I was a swimer as well and had to retire as our falily could not afforf for me to continue and bak when I was swimming there was no such thing as sponsorship.
I applaude her all the way to may gold medal and a fantastic role model and insperation she is to all of us.
Go get 'em!!!
Trade off
It must be noted that while Dara is in great shape and is an accomplished athlete, there are drawbacks....she's divorced twice and sometimes the single mindedness of being an elite athlete can cause personal issues.
I feel that people should workout, not to look like Dara, but simply for better physical and mental health. But don't get obsessive about it.
Dara Torres is an athlete. As such, it is necessary for her to spend the time and money (if one has it) to put her body in the best condition possible for her job. Performers also make their living with their bodies, and therefore also need to focus much time and energy to have that body at its best.
"Regular" people need to focus on being healthy. Weight or shape are not the definition of health, although attaining and maintaining a body mass index in the "normal" range should be everyone's goal, but not the total focus of their life.
The key is: Everything in MODERATION!!! Eat less, move more, drink water.
Hard work and dedication
I am a 42 year old mother of 4 boys (all c-sections) and think Tara is fantastic. As for her body people have to understand keeping in shape in order to compete is her job. She works at it several hours each day. It takes hard work and dedication that most people don't have. For myself I am 5'2" and weigh 120 with a total body fat of 13%. I by no means look like Tara but I work hard at watching what I eat and making sure I am in the gym or outside running 5-6 days a week. It is my stress relief and I enjoy taking care of myself. I don't plan on letting up anytime soon.
