Pro-Life Drugstores and the Meaning of 'Abortion'

Think about others.

Bethany of MI, you ask why don't pharmacists think of other's rather than themselves. They are, they are thinking of the children or are aborted due to the birth control pill, and, they're thinking about the people who take the pill who die because of the pill, even under 35 and they don't smoke. May be you should ask yourself if you could think of anyone else other than yourself? Oh and btw, you can get pregnant on the pill, I know because I did, and the day I took the pill, not thinking I could be pregnant. I bled for a month and a half because the people at Planned Parenthood did not tell me the pill can be an abortive measure. And pinklife of florida, not all babies who's mother's try to abort but are not aborted become criminals, in fact most of them realize they are blessed to have a life to begin with and therefore cherish their lives. Do not speak about a statistic if you do not have one. There are plenty of people who would adopt

Aniamls? Really?

Yea too bad it's legal to kill animals, but not humans. Have you ever tried to eat someone? I don't know if you but it's illegal to kill someone in the United States because everyone has a right to life. Animals are a different case in so many ways. Whoever posted Animals, are you serious?

Interesting Information

I found lots of interesting information on health.usnews.com. The post was professionally written and I feel like the author has extensive knowledge in the subject. health.usnews.com keep it that way.

Animals

I think the problem with the argument that abortion is wrong because it takes a "life" is that, eating any meat, chicken, fish, pork, beef (ect) is also taking a "life". We are humans but we are mammals, we are, dispite what we may tell ourselves also ANIMALS. Everyone who apposes abortion should also appose the eating of anything that had life, carrorts, potatos, meat...You get my point, life is life, all life was created by God, what difference does it make to him of what spiece it is. If abortion was wrong God wouldn't allow animals to do it...almost all animals practice birth control, meaning in poor situations such as drought, they miscarry if pregant, become sterel or refuse to mate, those that do become pregnant under less than ideal circumstances often will abort their unwanted babies, fish do it, rabbits do it birds do it- name almost any animal, and it probably does it...wild animals do not sin, if God did not give these animals the ability to abort the life of unwanted offspring, it would hurt the speices chance of survival.

Abortion SAVES life, by ensuring that those babies that live, can get the best chance of survival. Humans are no different, if you look back in history you will find that the human has always had ways of practicing birth control, and for thousands of years have aborted children who they knew they could not care for...they did it because they want the best for children who live.

Can you please provide a web link to the pro-life pharmacy in Chantilly, VA.

No birthcontrol pill and no condoms?

Come on now.. it's 2008. I am 19 and I have been on birthcontrol for 2 years now and if I wasn't I am pretty sure I would have already had an abortion. Of course people are going to say that I shouldn't be having sex because I am too young or some crap like that but... you can't control anyone. Kids are going to have sex whether someone likes it or not. You can push your faith on someone but that's not going to change the fact that WE are stupid teenagers and we are going to try everything out we can. So why take something away like birthcontrol.. which is preventing abortions? Like I said before, if my friends and I weren't on the pill or didn't have the morning after pill available to us.. we would already have had an abortion or maybe a few more.. or we could even be single teenage mothers. But at least we are smart enough to know what is out there and what can help us.. so why take something like that away? How about people (pharmacists) think about their costumers and not themselves? hmm...

Idea

Here's an idea: Pass a law that any health-care worker who, by denying services, causes a rape victim to remain pregnant for even two seconds longer than she wishes, shall be guilty as an accessory to the rape.

"pro-life" Pharmacies

Its one thing to object to abortion and the plan B pill. But, going against ALL birth control? That’s just plain idiotic and an assault against personal freedom. The "pro-life" movement is just focused against abortion, their against personal autonomy in general. The irony is that limiting access to birth control will only lead to more abortions! The rest of the industrialized world has better access to contraception has much lower levels of both abortions and teen pregnancy.

Unintended consequences?

JER, thank you for the wake-up call--too many people get caught up in the philosophical debates surrounding this issue and forget that these are REAL PEOPLE onto whom we are projecting our views. Crack babies, fetal alcohol syndrome, low birth weight due to cigarettes--you see the consequences of unfit persons procreating. And thanks to the tireless efforts of our pro-life friends, more and more of these unwanted and neglected fetuses can grow up to be the criminals and addicts of tomorrow.

I humbly disagree

a)I honestly do not understand why you consider selling

Viagra inconsistent with a pro-life stance. I think this is an incorrect way of trying to debase pro-life pharmacists.

b)"unknowing women who wander in may be forced into an embarrassing situation..."

Buyer-I'd like to buy contraceptive pills

Pharmacist- Sorry, we do not sell them here

Buyer- Ok, I'll go to another pharmacy then

Pharmacist- Have a good day

I sincerely do not understand what your basis for a "forced embarrassing situation" would be. If I chose to sell vegetarian food at a restaurant, would I be embarrasing non-vegetarian clients?

c)"define conception as beginning at the moment of implantation"

It turns out that the fertilized egg contains a distinct DNA combination, different from that of his/her parents. The DNA that is present in almost every cell composing your body now is the exact same combination defined at the moment of fertilization. Live embryos are routinely conceived "in vitro", prior to implantation.

On what basis, then, do these organizations consider that it is attachment to the uterus that makes a fertilized egg a live entity?

Deborah, I sincerely wonder why it is so disturbing to you that pharmacists follow their conscience in this aspect. It is without doubt a tough and brave decision for them to make, for contraceptives make a sizeable proportion of a pharmacy's income. They are voluntarily resigning a lucrative aspect of their business.

(I am a pro-life person, because it makes no logical sense to me to establish an arbitrary mark for the beginning of human life. What is the difference between a human being of one cell, many cells, millions of cells, in terms of dignity? The answer is none, because human dignity is not a quantitative quality; otherwise I would be "more human" because I am composed of more cells than a baby. In other words, has a fertilized human egg ever developed into a possum?)
