Sleep

You used the phrase "shirk off sleep." There is no such thing. Surely you mean "Shrug off sleep." Shirk means to neglect one's duty, or waste time at work. Except for this grammatical lapse, an interesting and useful article. I've found that stretching, relaxing one body part at a time from head to toes, and repeating a boring mantra over and over (all meditative techniques) are very helpful. The poor woman with the burning pain might well benefit from hypnosis. it can be useful in controlling pain.

Sleep

I have neuropothy as a result of a major stroke about four years ago. Have not found a medication to control the pain. It is fairly tolerable during the days while I am up, but the minute I try lying down and getting some sleep, the entire left side of my body begings to burn as if someone has dumped a hot bucket of burning coal on me. The only way I can tolerate in at all is to watch television, or do what I'm doing now. When I do anything mental it seems to relieve the pain somewhat. The doctors tell me that I could have this condition the rest of my life. They say that my brain does'nt read my condition as pain, therefore there is no knowln medication to relieve the pain.

I also have type II diabetes and coronary heart desease. I am 71 years old. Please, do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Sleep, relaxation

30 years ago, if I got to sleep 30 minutes after retirng, I did well. 1. I found help by thinking of something very boring to me - even people I barely knew.

the next thing I knew I was waking in the morning. 2. I knew I had "Issues" and later took up the study of Hypnosis, I ultimately became a Hypnotherapist and have been in practice for 28 years. I use the "tool" for that is all it is, daily. 3.Hypnosis is very relaxing I use it to go to sleep 4. Hypnosis helps eliminate the toxic effects of stress. When you have prolonged stress your immune system will lower and you will a. get sick b. catch a cold etc. I have not had a "cold" for 16 years. the flu 3 times, but that is a different animal.

No matter what you have heard, Hypnosis is one of the bestgifts our creator gave us. Daydreaming is hypnosis, how natural is that, and we all do it daily. Look it up, study it, and use it. Your health and sleep will improve.

Stretch

Stretching relaxes the body by warming the muscles. A few minutes of full body stretching before sleep really makes lying in bed more comfortablre

Intentional relaxing

The best thing that has always worked for me is to concentrate on relaxing each of my muscles, starting at the feet, one at a time. It takes your mind off of whatever you are thinking. By the time I get to my arms, I'm usually asleep. Also, there are muscles in your forehead that get very tense when you think about all those worries. If you intentionally relax those, it will help your whole body to relax and fall asleep.

The idea is to stretch that "once" so we can party some more.
