Acetaminophen use, both prenatally and before and after immunizations is most likely behind the spike in autism. After my first child was diagnosed with autism, I refused vaccinations for my next child. However, he started showing signs of autism as well, so I knew there had to be something else going on. In addition to the autistic symptoms, he also had wheezing episodes as a baby and toddler that he outgrew as he got older. Preliminary studies are already beginning to link both asthma and autism to acetaminophen.
This makes sense to me, since Tylenol is known to deplete glutathione, an antioxidant that is needed to filter toxins (including mercury) from the body.
Look at when the spike in autism (and asthma) started...it was in the late 80's, after aspirin was linked to Reye's Syndrome. In addition, there was the Tylenol cyanide poisonings of '82, in which the makers of Tylenol suffered huge financial losses after some deranged person tampered with their product, so they launched a huge marketing campaign, aimed at frightened consumers. It worked, and Tylenol use skyrocketed, and continues to this day. Not only that, but after reports started surfacing of severe side effects from the DPT shot, including high fevers, seizures, even SIDS, pediatricians started recommending Tylenol BEFORE vaccinations.

vaccines are dangerous
Vaccines caused my son's autism. He was lucky enoough to be born in 1999 and pumped full of yummy mercury starting at 12 hours old. I think they are just trying to delay the inevitable. Vaccines have caused most cases of autism, asthma, diabetes and autoimmune disorders. Someday the truth will come out but our country will be so overrun will sick people that it will be too late. The schools are already going broke trying to pay for all the sick kids. Just wait til they reach adulthood. We have a disaster getting ready to happen and all I hear about is autism is environmentally caused but not by the vaccines. What a mess these pharma companies have made. VACCINES cause autism!!
Ignoring the obvious because it's controversial
It is strange that Dr. Landrigan and other investigators will not investigate the one substance directly injected into almost all U.S. children. Instead they will focus on a plethora of other possible toxins, the success of which sounds akin to herding cats. No one is taking responsibility for studying the current effects of multiple vaccines on children, or running lab tests on children who received past overdoses of the mercury-based preservative Thimerosal. Preventing vaccine injury is everyone's responsibility.

20 years! 20 years yet they will not even consider that our kids were injected 10-20 times with the most toxic form of mercury at levels hundreds of times higher than all government safety limits. They just bought themselves 22 years by the time anything is actually published. What a crock! The medical industry needs to be held accountable for this crime.

Great, so Autistic kids have to wait 20 years for answers
Glad to see this type of research is being undertaken. And I am glad that a mainstream outlet like U.S. News is balanced in their coverage on issues like Autism unlike other national publications. However, 20 years is too long to wait for parents and children who are dealing with autism.
I would like to see immediate and independent studies (no CDC or Vaccine makers who sponsor) which deal with the impact of vaccines on the development of children's brain. There are too many children who are suffering and a recent study shows that autism rates are not increasing because of better diagnosis but because of environmental causes.
These studies are needed when you consider that Dr. Paul Offit and some other vaccine advocates routinely say that the mercury and other metals in vaccines do not cause any harm to developing children and equate anyone who thinks vaccines may cause autism to someone who believes the earth is flat.
Personally, I have had it with "experts" who keep pushing all this happy talk about vaccines. Parents know the truth. It is time the medical profession and the government catch up.
