We need to start earlier with the education.

There is a lot of research showing that we need to educate children even younger before bad habits start and set-in for these reasons. The research is showing as young as 18 months with songs and games has an impact on over all health in the pediatric population. (Move It. Lose It. Parents talking about diets for their kids.

I think if parents change what foods they cook and eat automatically they won't have to talk to their kids. If the parents take control then the kids will lose weight and not really notice until they jump on a scale. Parents be parents, step up and make the change.

Lifestyle Choices instead of Diets

I know everyone wants to lose their excess pounds quickly. But it is not just kids that this will backfire on. We all know someone (ourselves) who have spent the last few years losing the same 10-20 pounds.

Blogs like this and this one - http://healthhabits.wordpress.com/2008/05/05/to-diet-or-not-to-diet/ - are invaluable in creating better lifestyle habits.
