Multivitamins—a Health Hazard?

Vitamins

I have taken multi-vitamins for nearly 20 years now. Vitamins should never be taken individually, because they work better together. Individual vitamins can deplete other vitamins consumed via pills or in food.

The problem with today's vitamins is that they are not only grown or synthesized with petrochemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, but they are also from genetically engineered crops, such as soya for vitamin E or corn for vitamin C. Dangerous cancer causing weed killers are sprayed on soy, not to mention that it is genetically altered DNA that makes the seed resistent to Monsanto's Roundup...or at least that is the hype.

Glyphosphate has been identified in Lancet as increasing the risk of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and another study in Argentina uncovered other serious diseases to the people living near the fields where the genetically modified soy is grown and where lots of petrochemicals are now sprayed. "A study by the Italiano Garibaldi Hospital in Rosario showed that in six towns in the region, the incidence of testicular and gastric cancer in males was three times higher than the national average; the incidence of liver cancer was 10 times higher; and the number of cases of pancreas and lung cancer was two times higher," according to an article in Mar 4, 2009, IPS.

Remember, soy is used for the extraction of vitamin E. Corn is genetically modified with Bt to be an insecticide. But, it is still sprayed with other petrochemcials and grown with petrochemical fertilizers.

Just as some soft drinks are only as good as the water from which they are made, vitamins are only as good as the crops from which they are extracted. If the crops are heavily contaminated, so are the vitamins and water with petrochems.

With genetically modified DNA in crops and animals, the patent is owned by the biotech-pharmaceutical-pesticide company. They alter the DNA of the seed, so even if you grow your own food, the seeds are still contaminated. This is because seed companies were told to mix the seeds together. After the Monsannto's of the world have depleted livlihoods of farmers, they will go after the people growing their own gardens. Control the food supply/control the world --and our government, regardless of administration, is helping them do just that.

Obama has been brainwashed, along with the Congress and Senate, and all universities that receive grant monies from the biotech-pesticide-pharmaceutical industries. This is making vitamins and once healthy food, contaminated.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup, an herbicide produced by U.S. biotech giant Monsanto, which developed Roundup Ready Soy, genetically modified to withstand high doses of the non-selective weed-killer.

We must somehow take back our country. One cannot live on vitamins alone...especially contaminated vitamins. Healthy food reduces health care costs because people are not ill.

Chemical food --not healthy

Organic food, that is food grown by the organic method does not use petrochemical fertilizers, pest controls called agricultural control products or weed and insect killers, growth regulators, patented genetically modified organisms, which often require a huge fee, signed contract and continual purchase of the company's weed killers or other pest controls.

Conventional food is grown with hazardous wastes which have entered silos as legally hazardous waste, and exit transformed magically into "fertilizer." Alike chemical pest control, there is very little regulation is any on fertilizer. During the Clinton Administration, the first controls appeared, but they were the weakest in the world. During Bush-Cheney, everything was de-regulated.

Compost is not regulated and may contain coal ash, likewise with top soil. Some top soils and composts contain sewage sludge which is everything mankind and industries have dumped down the drain, plus hazardous wastes burned in cement kilns and the ash residue --the clinker --goes into commercial compost. Not all is contaminated, but there is no right to know, no labeling requirement. Brine from oil and natural gas drilling operations, which is highly toxic and unregulated, is mixed with soil and sold as top soil. Everything the fossil fuel and related industries produce increases our risks of disease because it contaminates land animals, and marine organisms. Fish have cancers, just like wildlife, domestic animals and people.

There are known reasons for the risks of breast, colon, and prostate cancers and they include recombinant bovine growth hormones, which some farmers inject into cows to make them produce more milk. When the cows become ill with mastitis, crippling diseases, and such, the pharmaceutical industry (the sister to the petrochemical industry) has treatments and antibiotics which calm the symptoms, but don't cure the disease. Hence, diseased cows continue to give milk until they die, and their milk not only raises the IGF-1 factor in humans, but makes us resistant to antibiotics.

All this is tied together. If you can create a product that people think they want, so what if it contributes to disease, the pharmaceutical industry has drugs to treat the symptoms, but not cure the disease. This is the way the economy in the USA works.

And, in fact, often there are no peer reviewed studies published before these products go on the market in the USA. U.S. inhabitants are lab rats for the fossil fuel chemical-pharmaceutical industry and the propaganda is being spread world wide by every administration since Reagan and Bush I. That includes the Obama Administration.

Chemical food is not healthy except to keep the petrochemical economy running. It is bad for the planet, bad for our environment, bad for our health and for the developing fetus.

Organically grown and produced by the organic method is the only way to sustain life and health.

Healthy food, good health

If our food weren't genetically engineered to resist more petrochemical pesticides or genetically altered with the Bt virus to actually become an insecticide, or grown with petrochemicals that have been linked to all sorts of illnesses include both cancers and neurotoxins, then Americans would be healthier.

Many growing practices used in the USA have been banned in Europe and other countries. Where they are used, it is because our government, regardless of administration, has pressured other countries such as Mexico and Latin America to purchase genetically (DNA) altered and patentedly seeds and recombinant bovine growth hormones which are injected into dairy cows to make them produce more milk. RBGH has been found in studies independent of the biotech industry to increase levels of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) in milk. "IGF-1 is a powerful stimulator and regulator of cell-growth and division in humans and cows. The study concludes that increased IGF-1 levels are risk factors for breast and colon cancer."

Low fat milk may be good for you, but unless it is the cows produce milk by the organic method, which does NOT include rBGH, you are putting your health on the line.

Every U.S. Administration since Reagan-Bush have promoted genetically engineered foods in the USA and around the world. This includes the Obama Administration who has appointed a Monsanto friendly Tom Vilisack to Secretary of the USDA. And, Vilisack has appointed Monsanto lobbyists to control food and safety. Give me a break. Monsanto knows nothing about safety. Recall their manufacture of PCBs, Agent Orange, hazardous waste landfills in Alambama and other states where disinformation has been told of the effects to the health of the human and animal neighbors. The entire planet is contaminated with Monsanto's chemicals, and now it is becoming contaminated with their patented DNA, which contaminates other crops when the wind and pollinators spread the toxic DNA.

The only food that is still healthy is that grown by the organic method, which does promote good health, here and worldwide. The rest persuades the public through propaganda that it is healthy, when in fact it is not. It is grown with petrochemicals made from fossil fuels which contaminate the planet, our bodies, cause disease, including cancers, and contributes to global warming. It is a big lie!

Multivitamins

I have taken multivitamins a couple of times, at the urging of my doctor. More and more though I am sure that vitamins and minerals have to come from food, not little pills.

Much as the fast food industry, the pill makers are trying to tell us that with their product we will feel much better. Well, baloney.

Thou needest to remember two things; eat fresh foods as often as you canst, and move, for heaven's sake.

Eating is for 2 or 3 reasons (depending on the nutritionist).

1. Nutrients

2. Energy

3. Fiber (maybe)

I would love to see a planned meal chart with all the nutrients in it, without a crazy amount of work. If there is cooked foods, then a multi is required. A mega pill is dangerous, as to much of a thing needs something else to counter it. And taking on an empty stomach is bad too. Omega Fats are rancid in a vitamin pill.

As a chemist will tell you, a chemical is a chemical is a chemical. So take a pill with a meal.

Now, when we are getting into cancers, the places were you can see results (i been there, and it is free to visit) is to google sprouts, cancer and raw foods. You be surprised.

When it comes to grains, here is the problem. You need an acid liquid (gastric acid) with a low pH to digest foods. Grains suck up the liquid, and even have enzyme inhibitors (to stop a seed from sprouting till deactivated by soaking 24 hours). SO, there goes digestion. And we not even gotten into pancreatic atrophy from overwork on digestive cell production and insulin.

OK, if you have high blood pressure, that is because saturated fats are long and straight under a microscope, and stick to the artery wall. You need a certain amount of blood pumped to live. If you make the artery hole smaller, the blood pressure has to rise to get the same volume of blood through in the same amount of time as if the artery hole was bigger. The way this is usually lowered, is by omega 3 and 6 fats which have a curved shape, and will unstick the staturated fats in about 10 days. This is usually done by omitting fats, not to much sugar that turns to fats, and with FLAX oil pressed less then 3 months ago and kept cold. Most times, the blood pressure will drop below average in the 10 days.

Research has estblished that isolated, fragmented vitamins are not good for your body. Many researchs have been abandon because the people taking the vitamins were suffering health problems caused by the vitamins, even deaths. Your body simply doesn't know what to do with those artificial vitamin substitutes. A company cannot patent a natural product so they make a near chemical match so they can get their patent protection.

Food is your vitamins, however, our current food distribution system is so bad that we are delivered, foods that have been picked before they were prime and raised in soils that are devoid of any good nutrition and full of insecticides and growth chemicals. So when you go to the store you are not getting optimin nutrition even though you may think you are. Even stores that have an organic section may be selling non-organic for organic. Many have been prosecuted for this very violation.

Makes you want to plant a garden.And you can easily do an above ground garden with little effort and expense.

However, if you buy good fruits and veggies, wash them well and consume them as near raw as you can and then take Juice Plus+(vine ripe,organic, chemical free) you can provice youself with an extra step up to better health. Plus leave off as much of the meats and dairy as you can.

In My Experience

I take potassium and Co-enzyme Q-10 daily...because I also take a diuretic for high blood pressure and lipitor for high cholesterol. If I didn't take the potassium I would get leg cramps...and I do every time I run out and have forgotten to get more. If I didn't take the Q-10 I would be in constant fear that Lipitor was ruining my heart. I have applied Vitamin E to a burn and seen it heal much faster than anything else I've put on it and there is no scar left. You can't tell me that these vitamins do no good or may even do harm. I will never believe it. All studies can be skewed for whatever results you want to show...it all depends on who's doing the funding. I learn from my own experimentation...not from information that may or may not be valid.

I Began b12 in 1997 after surgery gave me tremendous lift. Stopped for a few years and began draging again--renewed b12 and use it regulary--without it I'm down. 79 yr old great grannie

Multivitamin studies

Evidence against the benefits of multivitamins have been mounting for many years. Based on scientific (not epidemiological)evidence I could have told the authors not to waste good money on 161808 women (M. K. Eberhardt, Reactive oxygen metabolites'''CRC Press, 2000 and M. K. Eberhardt, Life and Death in an Oxygen Atmosphere, Booksurge, Charleston, 2007)

Already in 1994 Barry Halliwell, a well known British scientist published a paper: "Vitamin C, a key to health or a slow acting carcinogen".

The good advice by Dr. Marian Neuhouser : "Get nutrients from food" is good advice, already suggested millennia ago by Hippocrates: "Thy food shall be thy medicine".

So my question is: "What else is new?".

Multivitamins and exercise

I remember an article from the New England Journal of Medicine. This article is probably 45 years old by now, but it shaped my physical health and I don't have any reason to think it wasn't true. I am now 64 and am told I look 50. The article suggested that a person that took a vitamin suppliment AND exercised regularly would improve their physical well being and keep younger all their lives. It seems to be working. I don't believe in mega vitamins, or mega workouts. As my mother used to tell me, moderation...
