generics Vs Generic Alternatives
First, Generic alternatives are not the direct generic for the same medication. It is a similar medication, it treats the same conditions with the same or very similar mechanisms... This is because doctor don't want to change medications that are working. What is needed, is for the doctor to start with patients with clinically proven cost effective medications, like genrics first. If you don't get the results that are desired, then go to a more expensive brand medication.
all drug manufactures are regulated and monitored by the same fda... same rules. just as you could have a bad reaction to a binder in a generic, you could have one to a brand name and not the generic.
roses
Sorry you've had such an issue but >I take synthroid< and my doctor monitors my levels it via blood tests. The generic for synthroid has been around for years and it is >>NO different<< from any "brand" equivalent. I also take the brand equivalent of fosamax and had no issues.
There are some drugs that do have a generic equivalent but we tried them and didn't like the side effects and ESI lets my daughter take Focalin (instead of ritalin) for that reason. ESI never gave us any hassle over that. The higher price still beat the pharmacy.
ESI mail order pharmacy regulates any prescription counterdiction issues as well as your local pharmacy if you have all your prescriptions through them, like I do.
I was resistent to mail order generics until I personally used them and I can honestly say the only difference for me is PRICE (and I don't have to go to the pharmacy every month), just refill online every 3 months.
Again my daughter's focalin is a good example of where the brand equivalent isn't "equivalent" and we had no problem but pay a higer price (still cheaper than retail). The higher price is worth it in this case.
IS NOT ALL ROSES @ ESI
GETTING GENERICS IS NOT AS WONDERFUL AS MOST PEOPLE THINK. GENERICS DRUGS ARE NOT AS WELL REGULATED AS BRAND NAME , THEREFORE, MANY OF THE FILLERS(INGRIDIENTS OTHER THAN THE ACTUAL MEDICATION)CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS. MOREOVER, MANY DRUGS ARE NOT AS EFFECTIVE IN THE GENERIC FORM, SUCH SYNTHROID, WELLBUTRIN AND SEVERAL OTHERS, A FACT NOTED BY PATIENT'S LACK OF RELIEF AND DR'S LAB RESULTS. WHEN ORDERING FROM ESI, EVERY PIECE OF INFORMATION MUST BE VERIFIED BY A PHARMACIST, VIA FAX OR, CALLS AND EVEN WHEN THE TECHNICIANS CALL AND VERIFIED INFORMATION THEY CAN REJECT THE RX BECAUSE THEY DON'T TRUST ANYONE TO DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY. DELAYS A PLENTY!
docs love the control
Docs like to control their patients (regardless of cost) and probably have a bias for using "brand" drugs, like I used to at the grocery store.
I like getting my prescriptions mailed to me and ordering refills over the internet. I've found huge savings buying generics when I finally was able to talk my doctor into adding "generics allowed".
Try FOSAMAX "retail" versus generic for one. I did. ESI saved me a bundle. Same with allergy sprays - $8 instead of retail.
However, maybe you can't manage 90 day prescriptions or are superstitious and you feel the need to run to the pharmacy every month or perhaps not educated enough to manage your own medical needs (old fashion drug store types). Why anyone would need to run to the drug store every month when you can order online, is beyond me. Not mentally equiped to save time and money? Educate yourself and save money - docs certainly are not savvy on these matters - it's not their money.
Home Delivery
I disagree with all of these above comments! I have been using Express Script's home delivery program for 3 years now and it has been excellent! They have saved me over $500 a year by switching me to a generic. They do not do auto scripts that send out even if not needed. They work with you to ensure you are getting what you need. The problem you have with most of the replies to this article are as follows: Some are Doctors who make money off of you using a non generic and make more money if it is filled by retail pharmacies, the others tend to be people that if they have to do more than pick up a phone to get something they claim it does not work, grow up.
Everytime I have ever had to change meds they have been more than helpful. Have you ever stopped and thought that maybe your Dr did not fax the request or he did write the wrong dosage on a script, of course not, he is in your face saying he "did no such thing" so lets blame the company that has no-one in your face.
Express Scripts Rips Off Consumers/Retirees
I sent a prescription to ES for a cream that comes in a tube. My doc wrote it for a 3-month supply, 4 refills, telling me I could have a tube a month. He wrote 1 gm twice weekly because you have to put a dosage. My local pharmacy had charged $35/tube on the SAME insurance plan. ES sent me ONE tube and charged me for three months, $87. When I called them, they told me the tube should last for 3 months based on the doctor's dosage, so they charged me for 3 months. I asked, "If the doctor had written 10 grams a week, would you have sent me 3 tubes and charged $87?" They said yes. ES charges based on the frequency of the dosage, NOT the medicine itself. Does a grocery store charge a customer who buys a gallon of milk every two weeks double what it charges a person who drinks a gallon in a week? The people at ES are IDIOTS!! I reported this to OPERS. State of Ohio retirees are getting ripped off.
