Sorry Texan
Yep, you're paying for a lot of things that benefit other people. They even have a term for it...it's called living in a "society." You pay for tunnels you don't drive thru, roads you never drive on, bridges you never cross, etc.
And here's the real shocker, the healthcare you say you're forced to pay for--it benefits you even if you're never sick. Because through the magic of things like vaccines, you have the opportunity to wander around Texas not having to worry about catching all the various diseases covered by public health systems.
Sorry "Flip Side"
But that won't cut it for me. I'm already paying for a lot of people's health insurance against my will, I don't want to pay for everyone else's too. When will people learn that nothing is free, and the government (Dem or Repub) never met a business they couldn't bungle beyond belief? I don't trust the government to fix potholes in the road, much less "fix" healthcare. Provide for yourself.
Health Benifits
Some seniors who have medical benifits from Champus are staying single, as they can not afford to lose the Champus insurance from a deceased spouse.
Just having Medicare and or a supplement can wipe out even a good nest egg.
I know, becxause I contacted a Staf Infectrion, and even with Champus I have some serious medical bills. Copayments are also a tremendous burder on any low income senior, as I am.
The government needs to start withholding Medicade payments from all workers, just as I had to pay into Medicare, as all do now, Medicade should not be free.
Just $1.00 a week from everyone to go into a Medicade fund for all would not hurt , but it sure would help.
A flip side
Marrying someone to give him or her healthcare on your group plan might be a mightily sweet and selfless thing to do. Only a society RUN BY CORPORATIONS, though, would create the circumstances for such a thing to be considered.
Speaking of "considering" things, consider this. Married couples who have a child with severe and expensive medical conditions are sometimes advised to get a divorce so that the spouse with custody becomes impoverished and can qualify the child for Medicaid. Oops, the party of "family values" just threw both you and the "family" political talk they like so much right out the upper-floor window.
Elect Democrats and keep electing them until your health insurance is yours forever in a not-fo-profit setting that has nothing whatever to do with your marital status or where you work.
Not really a new trend
Over 20 years ago I married a man I had been living with for 13 years primarily so that he could get on my health insurance program and receive some much needed surgery. Unfortunately the marriage didn't last but even after our separation we stayed legally married for over 2 more years so that he could continue to have access to the health insurance. It would be nice if we could add anyone to our existing policies as long as we are willing to pay the premiums.
