Not while trying to lose

If you are trying to lose wait, its best to abstain. I love my wine, do not get me wrong, but after having my daughter and trying to lose 50 pounds of babyweight, while drinking, was an exercise in futility. Why spend a an hour on the treadmill, achieving that fat burn zone, only to drink, and then your body STOPS BURNING FAT!!

I am a pretty healthy eater, but I do have the wine habit. I work out every day, limit my calories, lift weights, etc.. and the alcohol is the only thing keeping me from my weightloss goals.

For anyone that is frustrated with their weight, cut out the alcohol for 30 days, and you will be amazed how fast your body burns of the fat, as opposed to storing it.

I repeat.. Its not the calories that do the damage.. its the fact that alcohol becomes your body's fuel of choice.

Alcohol, will deplete your body of vitamins, (especially vitaming B which is needed for a healthy body and brain)

Alcohol, dehydrates you, leading to water retention.

I kidded myself for years.. Its not an obvious cause and effect, but more like a slow seduction that develops over time.

Be practical and not too strict

There is no way to lose weight with strict guidelines because they are boring and too strict. I have tried several popular diets but trust me, follow the god old rule - Watchful diet and Healthy lifestyle. By simply introducing active habits in your life, we can easily see wonders. Lest agree, we are humans and we find hard to follow a strict pattern and therefore most diet plans fail. I liked this article which I am sharing with you.

Former drinker - gone wagon wheel / still empty inside

Im an alcoholic, my father was. Ooooh dropped it. The link. Well, I think it plays a great role, maybe its not hereditary. Maybe its seeing that individual all your life, doing nothing but drinking. And everything that goes with it. But Ive been through the in-patient 30 day rehab, enrolled in ASAP for over a year. All this in the army, which thankfully it didnt ruin it for me. Good soldier and all. I was one hell of a functional drunk. Punctual is my middle name.

Now that my life story is out of the way, let me hit on the weight/drink issue. Im naturally skinny, tall and lean. Drinking in the amount I did for so long changed....well the size of my cheeks haha. The cheeks on my face that is. But I've been sober for 2 years on Jan 16 of 2010. Yep, projecting it. Why not. Goals, expectations. Self preservation? Finishing up a year deployment here in Iraq, and everyone of course is Chorus (beer catch-up). I am getting the irresistable urge to splurge. But I know I wont just stop at 1. Hell, as I down one my other hand is feebily trying to open the next. God bless the ambidextrious.

It seems I have strayed from topic as it goes with someone of my habit. Quid Pro Quo. Replace it with something good. Get hypnotized to stop drinking if need be. It works, not personally but in my family some have. Well back to weight, lol. I have gained maybe 10 pounds in the last almost 2 years since I quit. Inch to the waistline and a little on the face. Still lean though.

Ok, Im not going to ramble anymore about everything but. Not enough characters left in this comment box, and no idea of where to go next.

Drink, be happy, live free. Do what your body, wallet and heart can afford.

weight loss

My name is Elizabeth Signer aka "The Fat Boxer". I write a humor article on my weight loss experience for Examiner.com: http://www.examiner.com/x-1190-Orlando-Weight-Loss-Examiner. I have lost over 150 lbs (down from almost 400) after being told that I'd never be able to lose the weight unless I had lap band surgery. I discovered I had a gluten intolerance and after giving up many of the starchy carbs and gluten, the weight just FELL off! The affects of the gluten intolerance was particularly noticeable after drinking a beer. There are gluten free beers available through higher end groceries and gourmet markets that can give some of the "designer" beers a run for their money. They are also very calorie-competitive with many light beers.

Name correction

Hello,

Very interesting topic. I just wanted to let you know that it's Lona, not Lorna, Sandon. It would be much appreciated if you could correct this typo.

Thanks! Looking forward to reading more of your stuff.

Katherine Hobson: My error! Thanks for showing me -- I'm terribly sorry. I will correct it asap.

Moderation

I really think that the main thing to remember here is what I tell all my clients: moderation is key... Anything in excess, including supposedly "goo-for-you things", like exercise can do more harm than good when you exceed a certain point. You can't deprive yourself of things you love, or eventually, you will become frustrated and probably "binge" on food or alcohol.

Anybody in favor

of half a drink in any four-hour period? You won't gain much weight. You might help your cardio-vascular system. And you probably won't make a fool of yourself, or worse, get yourself in real trouble.

Alcohol is like fire: A wonderful servant and a fearsome master.
