Two sides to this

No, we do not want corporations at complete liberty to make untrue or unfounded claims for their herbal, nutritional and over-the-counter medicinal products.

BUT, we likewise don't want too much regulation and limitation placed on herbal medicine and nutritional supplements. We must REMEMBER that the prescription drug makers would like nothing better than for FDA to "outlaw" every cheaper alternative to THEIR products. And we must REMEMBER that those little aspirin tablets that you can still buy at 200 for a dollar (at the "dollar" stores) are among the most effective things you can take for heart attack prevention.

Vitamin / Supplement

You know I once read that Americans have the "most expensive urine in the world"! Sounds bizarre, until you see that what the article was referring to is the over use of vitamins and supplements in this country. While our bodies need vitamins and minerals, our main sources should be from food, not supplements. "Supplementation" is "in addition to", not "in place of", meaning we shouldn't rely n supplements to replace the role of food-fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein...

We also need to remember that most claims on vitamins and supplements are not FDA approved and can therefore be viewed as marketing tools which may not always be accurate.
