9 Lessons From Oprah's Weight-Battle Defeat
Reader Comments
What's the best weight solution for obesity?
I've tried Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and a million other programs, all repeatedly, to no avail. I'm now looking at surgery or the lap band as a solution, and wish my husband would really join me at the gym. I feel so alone trying to lose weight. Surgery is my next stop. Oprah is making a choice not to avail herself, with all her money, of all the many choices before her. If I could, I'd have a chef cook me the right meals daily, and keep me out of the kitchen. That would be easier than having to cook for the family, as I do. She's lucky, she has so many options before her, but our choices (with a lot less cash to throw around) are far fewer. Too bad she can't get her weight under control, but I don't think her medical condition is a legit excuse. Others have lost weight with this same thyroid diagnosis. Susan
Oprah
Oh, come on with this Oprah baloney. She doesn't have a thyroid problem. Her favorite food isn't a bag of organic blue chips. She's fat, and she eats fattening food. All her minions parrot what she says but the rest of us should be smarter than that.
Isn't she fortunate that she can meke megabucks and I am following her? Oprah is human and I have been adding and losing weight. She encourages me. So I am going to stick to watching her loose weight and work on my own weight too. I am following her program with her. So hopefully, I will have made a dent. If you can't beat them... join them.
No matter what you say or think, Oprah still pull a lot of crowd and I am sure you are sad about that.
Opra
I feel for Opra, I too have a thyroid problem and the frustration it gives. I was walking for exercise and gaining weight and feeling depressed (yes depression is a side effect of hypothyroidism), went to the doc. and I suggested that a thyroid test be run, as I hadn't ever had one. Lo and behold it (TSH) was high, indicating hypothyroidism. Need to be your best advocate. Since then, about a year, adjusting the med. Weight is still a problem, but continue to work on it, doing walking and Wii fit -- don't have $ for a trainer. I say alot of things don't appear as they are and look at your own backyard
Marketing
She's a big-boned girl who has made a bank full of money in the most shallow and vacuous industry known to man, the media.
So she's figured out a way to be the queen of the media while being so imperfect, and gain extra clout and money in how she deals with her very normal imperfections.
Oprah hits the holiday season with forks in both hands knowing that she will be able to cash in later.
Nice gig if you can get it. The rest of us just go back to the gym.
Oprah and weight loss
Personally, I no longer watch Oprah. However, I do have a great deal of respect for her and what she has achieved. As to her weight problems, you can go into any WW program and see people who have lost a large amount, gotten careless with their eating habits, and have returned to WW so as to once again try and get back into a too small dress.
That Oprah has struggled for years with her weight, believing she has found the perfect diet only to find that her appetite for goodies is greater than her appetite for veggies, only puts her in the same class as millions of Americans of both sexes.
I admire her and don't feel that she deserves any of the unpleasant comments that I've read.
face it: she's a fatty
once a fatty, always a fatty, i say...
Oprah
Why complain? She's made History and it will be a challenge for someone to follow in her steps no matter what they do or look like. Hell, I need to diet again and it makes me feel normal to see celibs struggle and try to get back on track.
Oprah
If and when you two complainers about Oprah can encourage as many people as Oprah, and make a few million (billions?) into the bargain, then I will deem you successfu at what you do and I might consider listening to you, but until then... sorry I want to go watch Oprah... No that is not totally true, I will check out Rachel Maddow on MSNBC as suggested by Permalink. Complaining is less of a pain when you offer an alternative, so thank you for that! Rosaleen
Exactly
I think everybody realises Oprah does this regularly.Come May and she will have lost 50pounds and be paid megabucks to say some kind of diet program did it for her.Her life is so sad.
