Exergaming "gateway physical activity intervention"

Thx for writing about exergaming! I was at the Games for Health conf. in Baltimore and it was exciting to see all the new developments and research going on in both the hardware and software/gaming sides. It was neat to see healthcare and game developers coming together. The fact that Humana, a large insurance company, along with the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, were major sponsors of this conf. shows that exergaming and games for health is gaining credibility.

It's exciting to be at the forefront of a new movement...and it couldn't come at a better time, given the trends in pediatric lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.

At the XRtainment Zone, we are a family fitness and wellness center that utilizes exergaming to treat combat these diseases head on. As far as I know, we are the only wellness exergaming center that has an insurance company (Inland Empire Health Plan) that pays for it's members to play video games to get healthier!

I hope you can keep reporting on this growing field of games for health and exergaming, for I believe that exergaming can be the gateway intervention for kids who might not do the traditional sports and exercises. Exergaming is meeting these kids where they are at! Maybe someday, we'll have a nationwide XRGames tournament where kids will "train" to compete in these games. They will be called the athlete of the 21st century: XRGaming Athletes!
