But it turns out exercise is not the key to weight loss

A recent study concludes that exercise is not the key component of weight loss. It's

the calories going in, if you will, that matter. Exercise can actually inhibit weight

loss because people often treat themselves to more food--an energy bar or whatever-- after they've finished exercising. This is not to say that exercise doesn't have

benefits. It clearly helps with fitness and mood. But weight loss requires a different

approach.

Losing weight and keeping it off

I am and have been serioysly overweight all my life. I am sure that food is an addiction like many others. We all seek happiness and food seems to povide some immediate level of comfort feeling that we don't seem to find in other places. I am sure that the long term solution is spiritual. I believe that for me the obsession with food will be lifted as it was with alcohol. Any obsession creates hell and food is no different. I know exactly what to do and how to do it. Yet I don't do it on a consistent basis. Why? It has to come to a point where food is secondary and just nutritional not an elusive and never satisfied drive for ego gratificaton.

All the best,

Marc

Walk

All is fine, but if you and your dog have walking promblems like Arth. Can house work, stair climbing and gardening compinsate? Along with watching diet of course.

Power of 3

I am trying to eat 3-5 servings of Fruit AND vegtables a day.

Work out 30 min's a day.

Eat less chocolate.

The word is lifestyle

If you want to lose weight forever, you have to change your lifestyle forever. This doesn´t mean you´ll never get a mikshake or a pizza ever again, but instead it means you'll do it sparingly. And learn just to taste food... share a pizza for example and take only one or two slices... its more than enough specially if you also take a tour to the salad bar.

Best regards to everybody

My "Three"

1) Walk more: When I was in Italy recently visiting a friend, we walked all over the place - we must have been on our feet for at least six hours a day. I lost weight, despite eating lots of great food, pasta, bread, cheeses, prosciutto, etc. So upon my return, I've made it a point to hit the walking trails around my house for longer and longer treks. On days when i don't have time, I try to walk on the treadmill or just take a break.

2) Eat Italian - olive oil (in moderation) instead of margerine or butter; lots of salads with olive oil and balsamic vinegar; tomatoes, veggies and pasta (whole wheat with high fiber); and a particular fave - Kashi thin-crust whole wheat pizzas, low calorie... you can/should split one with one or two friends/family. Eat organic - fruits, veg, fruit juices with no added sugars...

3) Cut way down on diet sodas. Drink water, water, water and mix bottled water (or purified tap water) with everything you drink - organic fruit juices, diet green teas, black tea, etc. Limit your soda intake to no more than twice a week, and enjoy the effect this change has on your skin. Coupled with eating more veggies and fruits and cutting back on breads and fried potatoes, unnecessary dairy (you don't need that Sonic Blast dear!), your skin will love this and you will feel so much better...

And one "bonus" thought: No red meat. It's death. If you must indulge, no more than once a month.

Some tips

Be good during the week by eating lots of fruit and veggies but allow yourself at leat one comfort food on the weekend.

Cut back on juices and other drinks they may contain alot of hidden sugars instead Drink lots of water between meals it really fills you up

Join a dance class with a frien, who cares if you never danced before in your life you will have fun and burn some calories as well

Eat fruits/veggies first

Go for a walk.

Cut your comfort carbs (aka 90% of your bread/pasta intake).

Fill up on fruits/veggies before starting in on the meat.

We, as Americans, tend to eat huge steaks, with lots of potatoes, and a small side of veggies - with cake and pie for dessert. Flip that around. Eat lots of veggies, tiny amounts of potatoes, and a little bit of protein, with fruit for dessert.

Just try it. You'll feel so much better.
