HPV Vaccine for Men: It's About Time

It's about time...Now, expand access to other age groups for both men and women

The article's author is right in saying it's better late than never that Gardasil may be approved by the FDA for males. Unfortunately, if the vaccine gets clearance for males in the U.S., it will likely be only for males that fall within the age group studied.

Merck, along with the FDA blessings, should sponsor Gardasil vaccine studies for other age groups - both men and women - younger and older. The rationality is simple: just because one doesn't fall into the age group 16-26, doesn't mean immunity, and thus protection from certain strains of the HPV, cannot be conferred by the vaccine. There are plenty of people who - gasp - have sexual contact at ages far younger than 16. Furthermore, one doesn't necessarily have to have sexual contact in order to become infected by HPV; it can be spread by direct contact with someone who has warts on their hands, feet, or any place other than sexual organs. In older age groups, the vaccine would protect those who have never had exposure to the HPV strains matched in the vaccine by inducing immunological responses. It's not like people stop having sex after the age of 26.

I'm a 30 yr old male who advocates expanding Gardasil access for both genders in much broader age groups. Kids younger than 9 would be protected from HPV when they come into contact with it from other kids through direct skin-to-skin contact. Older people would benefit too. Let's write letters to both Merck and the FDA asking them to expand access of the HPV vaccine to protect public health.

When will the gullibile wake up and smell the money!?

1. This vaccine has STILL not even been tested - not even a biased test by the vaccine's own manufacturer - as most vaccines only ever receive.

2. It has had THOUSANDS of toxic reactions worldwide, has seriously maimed many girls and even killed others. But oh no - it was only coincidence it happened hours after pumping this poison into their bloodstream.

3. HPV does NOT cause cervical cancer. NO LINK HAS BEEN PROVEN.

4. The vaccine doesn't even target the correct strains, that they claim cause cervical cancer.

5. The list goes on. But go ahead and poison your children. After all, going by statistics, you'll probably get away with it and they won't die, get MS, or brain cancer. Feeling lucky?

It's about time thank goodness!!!!!!!! I have sons and daughters they both need to be protected and by the way it takes two to tango........

HPV for Men

Apparently MERCK is not making enough money killing and injuring young women so they will now try to target young men as well.

Please research the people who have died and been permanently injured by this vaccine so far. My daughter is 20 years old and began suffering immediatly after her first Gardasil injection. By November she was suffering from gran mal seizures and will remain on medication indefinitely.

The vaccine was tested only in a limited number of young women before it was marketed and physicians giving it are not adequately following patients to assure that they have been safely vaccinated. We are all guinnea pigs at this time while they wait and see what the long term effects are.

Young men....just say no.

I thought that the HPV vaccine only vaccinated against FOUR strains of the virus - two that cause up to 70% of cases of cervical cancer, and two that cause up to 90% of cases of genital warts.

Your article seems to imply that getting the HPV vaccine will fully protect against other strains, which is inaccurate.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is water.

Seriously.

It is absolutely useless. It takes an ingredient that causes similar symptoms, dilutes it in water to such a degree that the original ingredient is no longer even present, then you take the water (sometimes another liquid is used, but it's the same idea).

First of all, the mechanics of taking something that causes similar symptoms to cure something unrelated is bogus.

Second of all, even if it were true, you're not taking enough of it to work. Stop taking homeopathic treatments and go to a clinical doctor. Planned Parenthood is a good place to start if you have no other trusted physician available.

Oral cancers

Oral cancers in men and women, particularly in those who are non smokers, are the fastest growing segment of the oral cancer population. There was an 11% increase in oral cancer last year alone, the first time in 5 decades we have seen an increase. The HPV16 virus is largely responsible for this increase. As an organization that has co-sponsored much of the research on this over the last 8 years, The Oral Cancer Foundation has an extensive web page of what we know and what we still do not have answers for at this location http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/hpv/index.htm

Oral cancer is not just for smokers anymore. Anyone who is old enough to have had sex is now a candidate for oral cancer. Brian Hill, www.oralcancer.org
