Reputation

What exactly is reputation? Lehman Brothers had a great reputation. Reputation didn't save Richard Fuld or the rest of the shareholders, why will it save lives?

Word of mouth

US NEWS rankings are all about reputation not about raw facts and statistics. Anyday I would trust the numbers instead of people´s opinions. Healthgrades rankings are simply the ones to trust.

Avery Comarow responds:
Read our methodology. Reputation accounts for one-third of the score in most of the specialty rankings, with hard data and verifiable information making up the other two-thirds.

Avery Comarow

U.S. News's Avery Comarow has been editor of the America's Best Hospitals annual rankings since they first appeared in 1990. His reporting on clinical medicine, from the latest cholesterol guidelines to robotic surgery, has been driven by the question: What does this mean to patients? And that is the perspective he brings to his observations and commentaries on the increasing number of programs by hospitals and other healthcare providers to improve care and patient safety.
