The beginning of the end

As an window into how the human mind works, I enjoyed the article. As a metaphor for just about anything else in the US health care system, I think I see the beginning of the end of private health insurance and just about everything else we have come to cherish as a collective. For the thing you have done so well in this article (really in a way few health writers seem able) is to create a perfect outline of why health care costs are skyrocketing in this country. Even your very real reaction is perfect (which is of course how all of us would react so no personal foul intended).

If you and or your readers do not see what I am saying, sadly our health care system has moved closer than I originally thought to the day when we will all say 'it's every man for himself'.

His reporting on clinical medicine, from the latest cholesterol guidelines to robotic surgery, has been driven by the question: What does this mean to patients? And that is the perspective he brings to his observations and commentaries on the increasing number of programs by hospitals and other healthcare providers to improve care and patient safety.
