About The Menninger Clinic
For more than 85 years, The Menninger Clinic's staff has been a leader in providing accurate diagnosis and the best treatment for patients suffering from severe mental disorders. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Menninger among the best in psychiatry for more than 20 years. The Clinic offers specialty hospital treatment and comprehensive assessments plus transitional and outpatient programs for adults and adolescents.
Menninger is an affiliated teaching and research hospital for Baylor College of Medicine. In 2012, Menninger opened in a new facility just minutes from the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical complex, giving patients greater access to medical specialties that often accompany individuals with mental disorders, as well as to brain imaging and other clinical research.
Patients come from across the nation and other countries. Many have experienced previous hospitalizations, suicide attempts, depression, personality disorders, substance abuse or addictive disorders, anxiety, self-harm, and trauma.
Philosophy
The collective efforts of our staff focus on improving the patient's life—medically, psychologically, and socially. Our psychiatrist-led clinical teams welcome each patient as an active participant. Together they identify a patient's core issues through comprehensive assessments and the prescribed mixture of group, family, and individual therapy for the patient. Equally important to attaining treatment goals is providing an optimal healing environment. Each program's community allows patients to support one another as peers, and the treatment team to provide a safe and supportive environment.
Treatment programs integrate substance abuse and addictions treatment as well as evidence-based therapies, including DBT, CBT and mentalizing therapy, with rehabilitation for relapse prevention. Eating disorders programming and support, individual psychotherapy, spirituality services, a Wellness Program, family work, and flexible lengths of stay are just some of the services the hospital provides to personalize treatment for each patient. To encourage continued recovery after discharge, former patients may participate in the educational and supportive programs of the patient alumni community.
