Children's Hospital of Philadelphia For Professionals

Profile for Professionals

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is the nation’s first pediatric hospital, and has long been considered one of its finest. Our 500+-bed University City campus, home to our world-renowned cancer, cardiac and fetal surgery programs, also includes a rehabilitation facility, an ambulatory care center, and more than 800,000 square feet of research space, while our Care Network serves patients at more than 50 locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In 2012, we handled nearly 1.2 million outpatient visits and more than 28,000 hospital admissions.

  • The Cardiac Center, where more than 850 cardiothoracic surgeries and 1,200 cardiac catheterizations are performed each year, provides care from before birth through adulthood with prenatal diagnosis, treatment and long-term care for all forms of pediatric heart disease. (267-426-9600)
  • The Cancer Center offers a large portfolio of early-stage clinical trials and a number of difficult-to-find treatments, including proton radiation. The center treats more than 500 new patients and 4,000 existing patients each year. (physicians: 888-ONC-CHOP; families: 267-426-0762)
  • Our Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment (CFDT) team members pioneered prenatal surgery for spina bifida and have the greatest depth of collective experience in this surgery in the world. The Center is also home to the Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit, the world’s first birth facility exclusively for mothers carrying babies with known birth defects. The Center has cared for more than 13,000 patients from all 50 states and 50 countries. (800-IN-UTERO)

CHOP also has comprehensive programs for diabetes, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, spine disorders and other conditions, as well as leading centers for rare conditions, including congenital hyperinsulinism, thoracic insufficiency syndrome and airway disorders. The Hospital excels at treating complex genetic conditions, such as Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and chromosome 22q11.2 deletion, that affect multiple body systems and require coordinated multidisciplinary care.

Our International Medicine team coordinates care at CHOP for patients from around the world and helps families obtain medical documentation for travel visas, schedule appointments, engage interpreters, arrange accommodations and plan follow-up care. (001-267-426-6298)
