HackensackUMC is a 775-bed teaching and research hospital and provides the largest number of admissions in New Jersey. Founded in 1888 with 12 beds and as Bergen County's first hospital, HackensackUMC has demonstrated more than a century of growth and progress. Today, this not-for-profit, tertiary-care, teaching and research hospital serves as the hub of healthcare for northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area.
HackensackUMC is Bergen County's largest employer with a work force of more than 7,200 employees and an annual budget of $1 billion. The more than 1,500 members of the medical and dental staff represent the full spectrum of specialties and subspecialties. The medical center has a volunteer population of more than 1,600 men, women, and teenagers, who donate approximately 200,000 hours to the medical center each year.
HackensackUMC is a Magnet® recognized hospital for nursing excellence, first in New Jersey, second in the nation, receiving its fourth designation in April 2009.
