Playboy.com Femme on Fire Celebrity Interview with <a href=http://cheapcoachfactorybackpacks2i.webs.com/>cheap coach factory</a> <a href=http://cheapcoachfactorybackpacks2i.webs.com/>coach backpacks</a> CW's 90210 star Jessica Lowndes
Known for launching the careers of now-household names Luke Perry, Jenny Garth and Shannen Doherty, for over 20 years the 90210 franchise has been the epitome of young adulthood—from sex and drugs to alcohol and abortion. While the crazy storylines will often give you a run for your money, the women of 90210 have been, and most certainly still are, the main draw to keep tuning into the series, currently airing on The CW; this week’s Femme on Fire, the gorgeous vixen Jessica Lowndes, is a perfect example. We sat down to chat with Lowndes on her role as the complex but talented songstress Adrianna, taking on the stripper pole challenge and performing on the Hollywood Bowl stage. Playboy.com: So you’re on set today?Lowndes: I’m currently on my way to set. It’s a night shoot tonight, so it’s going to be exciting.Playboy.com: That sounds fun; anything you can tell us?Lowndes: I’m singing “The <a href=http://www.ccoachfactoryoutlets.com/>online coach factory outlet</a> Star-Spangled Banner” in a very interesting way…that’s all I’m allowed to say. <laughs>Playboy.com: Tell us about your character, Adrianna.Lowndes: She’s come through a lot. She went through a drug addiction, had a baby, she <a href=http://cheapcoachfactorybackpacks2i.webs.com/>http://cheapcoachfactorybackpacks2i.webs.com/</a> had a lesbian love story for a few episodes. The past few years she’s been trying to become a star <singer> and has experimented with a bunch of different types of music and done a lot of unethical things. But she’s spent some time trying to prove herself, and now she’s doing music for the right reasons. She found herself in <the>current] season five. Now she’s in a love triangle…<laughs> In the season opener she finds out her boyfriend was in a car accident right before she performs before Carly Rae Jepson…and that follows right after she did something in Vegas with another guy.Playboy.com: 90210 drama can really get crazy; was it a shock coming into this role?Lowndes: It’s been an awesome journey. I was <only> supposed to be in the first two episodes, and I just was so excited that I could pay my rent! Then I moved down to L.A. from Canada and finally have work and sing on TV. It turned into so much more; I’m still pinching myself.Playboy.com: You’re performing at the Hollywood Bowl alongside Ne-Yo in an episode later this month (pictured); what was that like?Lowndes: It was so surreal. I’m obviously a big music fan, and I’ve gone to so many concerts there—it’s such an iconic venue. To be on the opposite side, onstage looking out, was so much fun. <laughs> Meeting Ne-Yo was so cool; he’s such a great dancer and performer and definitely an inspiration.Playboy.com: As you mentioned, your character has gone through a number of challenges over the seasons. What has been the most difficult for you to portray?Lowndes: All of it has its challenges, because they’ve been out of my comfort zone and personal life experience. The hardest thing, though, was after season three, after she took a dark tone and became a stranger—swapped out Silver’s <Jessica>Stroup] pills for placebos—and really unlikable. I had to win back the viewers’ trust; everyone hated Adrianna. Last season I had to spend redeeming her—I think we’ve gotten there. But who knows, now she’s cheating on Dixon <Tristan>Wilds]…it’s hard when the storylines go down that darker path.Playboy.com: You had a fun pole dance scene recently (below). What was that like to film?Lowndes: It was so much fun; I got to take pole dancing lessons! What girl doesn’t want to do that? I have a whole newfound respect for strippers—they make it look so easy, but it’s actually so hard, <laughs> it’s a workout. The scene came out pretty sexy. Balancing in those heels is hard, and also <you>can’t] wear lotion or else you slip down that pole. It’s like grease on your legs. I really enjoyed it. When I walked into the first lesson, I was like, “There’s no way I’m going to be able to swing on that.” Then at the end of the class I was swinging and doing all that stuff. <laughs>Playboy.com: <a href=http://cheapcoachfactorybackpacks2i.webs.com/>http://cheapcoachfactorybackpacks2i.webs.com/</a> What has been your most challenging role in film and television so far?Lowndes: They’ve all been challenging in their own way. Any character that requires a lot of emotional range and crying—it’s emotionally taxing. I love it, but it’s hard, as your body doesn’t know that you’re acting!Playboy.com: Your hit song “Falling in Love” with Ironik did extremely well, and you’re regularly singing on the show; what are your mainstream music plans at the moment?Lowndes: I’ve been doing a lot of recording and writing recently. This season there is so much more music; you got to hear “Snake Charmer” (above) a couple weeks ago. Whenever I’m not filming I’m in the studio recording. I released an EP earlier this year called Nothing Like This, so right now I’m sitting on all this music and I can’t wait for everybody to hear it. I have new music coming out the beginning of next year!Playboy.com: Tell us about your role in The Devil’s Carnival.Lowndes: It’s super cool. It’s almost like an art piece. Three people who have died find themselves in this carnival—so over-the-top 1950’s style—and whatever your sin is on earth is what you’re doomed to repeat. The carnival is in fact hell and the devil is the ringmaster. My character was extremely trusting…it ends up being her ultimate demise. <laughs> It’s also a musical! Very artsy and cool—an operatic horror!Playboy.com: Lightning Round. What is your favorite:City: This is a hard one—Vancouver, because it’s my hometown. But London, because I’ve spent some time there—I love the people, the culture, the red telephone booths on the side of the street and the accents, of course. <laughs>Drink: Coffee—I’m kind of addicted. Starbucks Grande Americano with half-and-half cream, it’s kind of my jam. Maybe mix it up during the holidays with a Pumpkin Spice or Gingerbread Latte.Food: I’m addicted to oatmeal; if I don’t have it I’m off my game.Dessert: Red velvet cake.Shot: Tequila, <laughs> Don Julio and Patrón.Embarrassing moment: There’s one going around the internet so I’m not going to say any more! But I choked on a piece of gum and threw up on my crush’s face when I was 13…mortifying, that’s social suicide. He leaned over to see if I was okay and…mortifying.Guilty Pleasure: Reality shows: The Bachelor and Bachelorette—I’m a hopeless romantic and still believe in the dream.Dream Ride: I just got a new Audi A5 convertible—it’s like butter on the street, my new baby.Awkward Pickup Line: “You kind of look like that girl from 90210…can I get your number?”Playboy.com: What else do you have <a href=http://cheapcoachfactorybackpacks2i.webs.com/>cheap coach backpacks</a> in the works for the hiatus?Lowndes: Last year I did a Lifetime movie which did pretty well…as a sociopath, which was fun! This year I’m auditioning, but I’ll go headfirst into the music scene.Playboy.com: What was your first Playboy?Lowndes: <Laughs> I don’t remember the first time with the magazine, but my first time at the Playboy Mansion was episode 100! It was so magical. It’s like Disneyland for adults…and I’m addicted to Disneyland.Playboy.com: Did you meet Hef?Lowndes: I didn’t, sadly; I’m obsessed with him, so maybe one day. He’s adorable.90210 airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW. Follow Jessica on Twitter @JessicaLowndes.

Play by Playmate with Jaime Edmondson
Subscribe to Play-by-PlaymateI’ve watched this video over and over. I first saw it on SportsCenter’s top plays. I’m fascinated that this guy from Cirque du Soleil was in full garb. Do you see how fluid he was? He had a windup, changed his mind, did a flip and then threw it right down the middle. It was so impressive. Of course, it’s not what I would have worn.My inspiration for this week’s blog came from seeing this guy’s ceremonial first pitch, which I think is now the best first pitch ever. Up till now, I thought mine was good. If you didn’t know, I was invited to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a Marlins game earlier this season. I was actually in Argentina working for Playboy when I got asked with a week’s notice.I took the redeye home on the same morning I was throwing out the first pitch. I think my pitch was not that bad for 1) a girl who has never thrown a baseball before and 2) someone who got in from a redeye that same day.Since I didn’t want to embarrass myself, the best that I could come up with for practice was a water bottle at my mom’s house. No joke. I opened the sliding glass door, judged the distance of what seemed would be from the mound to the catcher and filled up the water bottle halfway. I kept practicing my windup and would throw the water bottle out through the sliding glass door. I knew <a href=http://bagsoutletsonlines.com/>coach factory online</a> the Marlins'stadium like the back of my hand. As a former cheerleader for the Dolphins, it was my second home at one point. So I saw a lot of familiar faces right before I went out. I felt good. I felt at home. I was taking pictures, waving at my mom in the stands. I brought Playmate Lauren Anderson for support. But the Marlins entertainment staff explained to me that they could only walk me along the third base line and then I had to make the journey to the mound by myself.Everything was good up until the point I had to cross the third base line alone. At one point I really thought I was going to black out. I never expected that because of how comfortable I felt cheering on the sideline for so long. And then both teams had said they were going to stay in the dugout and watch, so I felt like I was being judged! All I prayed for was for was to not black out and for the ball to go straight. And I even wanted to have a windup. I’ve seen so many people go out there and stand straight and just throw it. But I practiced my sideways stance, went into my windup and made my pitch. It made it to the catcher and Iwas so relieved. Considering the circumstances I think my first pitch was pretty impressive. But the guy from Cirque du Soleil has my vote for best first pitch. Mine is a close second. And it had me thinking of who had the Best Worst First Pitch. Here’s my picks, in no particular order.Mariah Carey: Style, But No SubstanceMy biggest struggle that day—other than throwing it straight—was what to wear. You have to still dress according to your surroundings. But again, because of my job I also wanted to come across as sexy. I was torn what to wear, so I sent out a Tweet that day: do I go with high heels and wedges or go with Converse, this way I was sure to not fall on my face? About 98 percent said to go with Converse, so that's what I went with. Then we have Mariah, who did not go with the Converse. It's one thing if you have a bad pitch, but it bothered me that she was a stereotypical girly girl. I pride myself on being a girl, but I felt she set herself up sothat <a href=http://bagsoutletsonlines.com/>http://bagsoutletsonlines.com/</a> nobody expected her to have a good pitch. She was in stiletto heels, little shorts and blinged out jewelry and was giggling. People assume that that's how we're going to be like in the first place, and I can't stand how some women feed into that stereotype.NBA Player John Wall: Nailed Everything Except the ThrowJohn Wall, nowhe actually showed potential. But it was very misleading. He kicked his leg up, had a good windup and....I don't understand what happened. He forgot to follow through or something.Olympian Carl Lewis: Don't Believe the HypeCarl's pitch was my worst nightmare. I just wanted mine to go straight. His went sideways. What I don't understand is how you can be a world class Olympic athlete but still be so unathletic. That's what's mind-boggling about his pitch. I know just because he ran track he's not automatically going to be good at baseball, but I thought he'd have a knack at other things. I felt embarrassed for him because he hyped it up with this whole "raise-the-roof" thing. If you're going to hype it up, you have to follow it up.Gary Dell'Abate a.k.a. Baba Booey: A <a href=http://bagsoutletsonlines.com/>coach factory online</a> Shameful TossI fell in love with this one. I've even replayed it from different angles. There's certain places where you can't get away with a pitch like this. Had I done that in Florida, I probably would have kept my head, but where there's superfans in New York, Boston, Chicago, Philly—you can't do that. You just can't. But I like how he immediately recognized it. He was shameful. He knew it was bad.Home Run Derby: Me vs. Molly SullivanSo I got my first Home Run Derby win last week, beating COED Magazine, thanks <a href=http://coachfactoryoutlet2w.webs.com/>Coach factory outlet</a> in large part to <a href=http://bagsoutletsonlines.com/>coach factory outlet</a> Jose Bautista, who hit four home runs last week. This week’s challenger: Molly Sullivan, who is a sportscaster for the Mountain West Sports Network, CBS Sports Network, Versus and the Big Ten Networkand also co-host in 2011 of the seriesESPN Road Trip to the Big Dance. She'salso a former Olympic-caliberswimmer at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. That's some tought competition. Molly's picks: Mark Teixeira, Matt Kemp and David Ortiz. My picks: Aramis Ramirez, Lance Berkman and Jose Bautista (gotta go with him again!).The bet: Next time I'm in Vegas, whoever wins gets to pick the other's jersey and we'll go and catch a game at the Playboy Club. Hope I don't have to wear a Jets' jersey. Ugh.So let the home-run hitting and the trash talking begin! Follow me on Twitter at @jaimeedmondson to see all the smack talk and check back next week to see who walks off with the win.

Man with the Iron Fists Byron Mann on How to Be a Martial Arts Star
Most of us have fond childhood memories of toting quarters into the <a href=http://coachfactoryhandbagoutlet2u.webs.com/>coach factory online</a> arcade and attempting to beat the high score on the fabled Capcom Street Fighter game. Ever since Byron Mann first grabbed our attention as the con artist Ryu Hoshi in the big-screen adaptation almost two decades ago, the martial arts star has starred in a plethora of action flicks such as Red Corner with Richard Gere and The Corruptor with Mark Wahlberg.Hitting both theatres and television this month in Universal’s martial arts flick The Man with the Iron Fists with RZA, Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu and a starring role on the CW’s new hit Arrow, Mann took a break from his kick-ass duties to teach us how to be a martial arts hero, the secret to winning over Lucy Liu and the intensity of filming an action flick. Playboy.com: What can you tell us about your new film, The Man with the Iron Fists?Mann: It’s an original film—it’s not based on anything. It’s based on a vision by RZA. It’s set in 18th century China. It’s a story involving several clans at war with each other, with an English man—played by Russell Crowe—and a <a href=http://coachfactoryhandbagoutlet2u.webs.com/>coach factory online</a> black man—played by RZA—caught in between. The best way to sum it up…think of the movie as Lord of the Rings meets Genghis Khan meets Enter the Dragon. The martial arts in this movie are jaw-dropping.Playboy.com: What was the hardest thing to film?Mann: The action was not easy. The <action> was directed by Corey Yuen, who does all of the Transporter movies. To give you an example, I broke my knee while filming—I ran full-speed into the corner of an apple box. It blew up to the size of a basketball, I was rushed to the hospital…and then I came back and continued filming. Everybody had to step up <in>this film], it was heavy, heavy action. There were wires everywhere. We had 120 days of shooting, then we had a second unit doing just the action and that was another 120 days.Playboy.com: What was the biggest challenge with filming in China?Mann: We filmed at a studio called Hengdian, the biggest studio in China and perhaps the world. It sounds nitpicky, but one of the largest challenges was the cold. It’s not like shooting at Universal Studios—there’s no heating at all. We were shooting in -20, -10 degrees and no heating. It’s hard to act; it’s not as easy as shooting here <in>L.A.].Playboy.com: Tell us about your character, Silver Lion.Mann: Silver Lion is basically the main villain in this movie. He’s like the son of the king who turned out to be the bad guy and he basically betrayed everyone—RZA, Russell Crowe’s character—all of them are after the Silver Lion. He becomes an evil prince. Originally we don’t know that he’s bad until a third of the way through the movie, but that was an initial long cut; you can’t have a three-hour movie, so it’s now clear that he’s the evil prince from the get-go.Playboy.com: It’s been almost 18 years since you filmed Street Fighter. What have you learned about the action film industry and martial arts since then? Is there anything you would have liked to have known back then about filming this genre?Mann: I would’ve done more stretching…<laughs> I actually mean it. To really do stunts and action well, you need to be limber—that’s the first prerequisite. Since Street Fighter, I’ve trained in Wushu. It’s a fancy word for Chinese martial arts plus a little acrobatics. I was trained by Tony Chang, who did all the martial arts for Hero, House of Flying Daggers, all these big films. But what I love about it is that you learn these stretching techniques which make you 100 percent more limber. Before <SF> I thought that the bigger, the better; the bigger the muscles and body, the better. Now as I look back it’s better to be lean and mean. Instead of bulk I go defined. It’s better on your body: you go faster and it’s better on your joints. A lot of guys have humungous chests and biceps, but their legs are like chicken feet. So they have knee problems because they’re supporting their upper bodies. There’s a way of hitting hard but landing lightly. There’s ways of doing things.Playboy.com: How intimidating is a sexy woman like Lucy Liu when brandishing a sword?Mann: <Laughs> Lucy brandishes much more than a sword in the film. She was <a href=http://herveldresses.com>herve leger dresses</a> fantastic; she has that reputation as the ice queen but she was very warm. She asked me where the nearest organic food shop was in China. I told her there were none. <laughs>Playboy.com: How does one impress the great Ice Queen?Mann: No pun intended, but if you can do the playboy well, you’ll impress her. She likes to laugh. I think certain things that I did made her laugh; maybe my character was funny? <laughs> I wasn’t working to do it, but it came out naturally.Playboy.com: Can you give us five things you need to know to become a martial arts hero?Mann: As I mentioned, you’ve got to be limber. You’ve got to know how to hit hard and land soft or you’re not going to make it.You’ve got to be able to follow the choreography. It’s choreographed—follow it!Don’t take yourself too seriously. Gone is the age that the hero is invincible. People need to relate to you; show some vulnerability. You’ve got to either be smart…or know how to act it. <laughs>Playboy.com: You’ve just joined the cast of The CW’s Arrow. What can you tell us about that?Mann: Wow, I signed this confidentiality form…but I can tell you Arrow is about a rich kid (played by Stephen Amell) that’s on a ship and it capsizes and everyone dies except for him. He gets marooned on an island for five years, then returns as a vigilante. It’s based off the DC comic book Green Arrow. My character is a very secretive character, but I can say it’s someone he meets on the island. My character is intrinsically involved with his evolution into the Arrow. My character up until last week didn’t have a name—his name is Yao Fei—my character is based off a character from the comic book but has been modified. Watch me shoot some arrows! <laughs> <Arrow> is going to be much more gritty, darker and edgy than Smallville.Playboy.com: What do you have coming up?Mann: I have a film <A>Stranger in Paradise] I did last year with Stuart Townsend. It’s a thriller set in Bangkok, and we were filming when the country was flooding. Each day I’d wake up I’d look out to see if flooding was coming down the street. Crew members would be getting phone calls that their homes are underwater while filming—they kept filming! I also did a big Chinese movie that’s opening in China that’s called Cold War. It’s kind of like that film Infernal Affairs which was <the>basis of]The Departed.Playboy.com: What was your first Playboy?Mann: I was in Hong Kong and my buddy got ahold of a Playboy magazine—and we were 10 years old. At that age you’re looking at these images and you’re shaking—your body doesn’t know what’s going on. We were hovering over it at the <a href=http://herveldresses.com>herve leger dresses</a> park—it’s like Noah’s Ark. We couldn’t take it home so we decided to dig a hole in the park and cover it. It’s probably still there.Photo Courtesy of Universal Pictures. The Man With The Iron Fists releases November 2nd in theaters everywhere. Arrow airs on the CW Wednesdays 8/7c.Follow Byron Mann on Twitter @Byron_Mann
