St. Jeor is a behavioral scientist and registered dietitian by training. She is well known for her innovative nutrition-assessment tools and strategies for successful weight management. Her work in medical nutrition with cutting-edge technology and an interdisciplinary team of physicians, registered dietitians, behavioral psychologists, biostatisticians, and an exercise physiologist has provided new insights into improving the prevention and treatment of obesity.
Her work with the RENO Diet Heart Study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, helped create a mathematical algorithm that will allow clinicians to individualize caloric recommendations based on an individual’s resting energy expenditure (REE) or metabolic rate (RMR) and better define such an individual’s appropriate weight for preventing obesity or keeping it from progressing. Her goal is to better individualize treatment for long-term success. Her motto is:”If you can’t lose, please don’t gain…aim for weight maintenance!”
