Staying awake!!
I have found that a herbal tea, called "Sleep" taken late afternoon, will help me get to sleep quickly. But then, being 70, I need to go to the bathroom about 2a.m. Then I just lie for 3 - 4 hours, and then fall asleep about half an hour before I need to get up. It's the boredom I can't handle. And of course, after doing this for the last 4 years or so, I now start thinking "I wonder if I'll go to sleep?" NOT the right attitude to get you to sleep!!!

Insomnia
I have been dealing with insomnia for the past 35 years. It seems to be linked with what is happening in my life at the time. (Situational) I think the stress that is imposed on us or the stress we impose on our selves is one of the main culprits. A person needs to do a self-analysis. It takes time to understand what is affecting you and what to do about it. Anger may be part of the stress mechanism that we may need to take a look at within onesself. Letting go of anger is a strategy that is not easily overcome even if we are able to admit it to ourselves. Not necessarily are you exhibiting anger externally but more often you are experiencing it internally. When we are overwhelmed by what is happening in our life, we either deal with it by what is known as the flight or fight feature that is built into our personality. Sometimes we need to turn our problems around and take a look at the upside or look for more positives instead of negatives in a situation. (Hard to do) Try to find something positive to think about when you go to sleep. Recently I found, if I think about Jesus and what God has done for us I let go of my negative feelings and I will fall asleep. I'm not a religous person but it works every time.
No More Nappy Naps
I find That when I try to make myself sleep my body fights it more. I did find that t.v. works for me at times. Even though I shouldn't watch it. i put on certain shows. History Channel works wonders!!! Other times I take over the counter sleep aides. I get on the averge about five to six hours of sleep. And I still wake up at least two times during the night. At least now I fall back to sleep. i didn't used to. I would toss & turn. I woke up more tired from that. So I think that even if I get alittle bit of a "nap", it's better than not sleeping at all.
