Preventing Erectile Dysfunction

Posted August 13, 2008

Men can reduce their chances of getting diseases associated with erectile dysfunction by making healthful lifestyle choices. Smoking, for example, increases the chance of developing atherosclerosis, a narrowing of the arteries that can lead to erectile dysfunction. Men who don't smoke, don't drink more than three alcoholic drinks a day, don't use illegal drugs, maintain a healthy weight, and exercise regularly stand a smaller chance of erectile dysfunction than men who choose riskier lifestyles. Further, men with chronic illnesses such as diabetes or kidney disease can decrease their chance of ED by following their doctor's guidelines to keep these conditions under control. Taking medications as directed can also reduce the risk of ED.
