I saw the sun and it opened up my eyes and brain
i strongly agree that the more sun you get the more healthy you will be within reason, and its a fact that early risers are more successful in all areas of their life. The only reason for this must be because of increase sunlight exposure, i hope more people who suffer from depression are advised to get outside for an hour a day it has helped me immensely.
I live in England and its often cloudy most days so I am trying to get a bit more than the half an hour recomended I now want to live in a sunny place but being British thats impossible.
Sunlight for health
I do believe that getting a dose of sunlight at the same time each day is beneficial to your health. I know this by experience. I do not go outside much anymore because of the noise our neighbors roosters make here in Georgia. The high pitch sound hurts my ears because of a neurological health issue I have. By the way they crow all day. I feel my health has deteriorated tremendously because of this.I am not able to workout because of nerve pain. I used to go out and sit in my garden in the morning and evening(where I used to live). Not directly in the sun but indirect sunlight. And maybe about twenty minutes a day direct sun. I felt much, much better then because of this.
re: VIT D
I'm a 44 yo Male. no other health issues other than being abit overweight. just passing along an observation about artificially increasing VIT D.
Living in Alaska, and winters being short on daylight, I began taking cod liver oil capsules (hight vit D). I found that in doing so, very quickly, my teeth took on a yellow tinge and became sensitive. I had also increased my calcium but this still continued. It became clear that the increased vit D was causing my body to leech the calcium from the teeth whether my body needed it or not. I stopped the D and quickly my teeth returned to normal. It's likely that the calcium supplements that already have vit d, and the milk fortified with vit D that I consume, already make up the vit D I lack in exposure.
It also is my theory that yellowing and or sensitive teeth is a good sign of calcium deficiency (providing that they are not overloading on vit D). My wife had chronically sensitive teeth and within 2 months of taking calcium suppliments, they lost the sensitivity. She can now enjoy cold drinks and ice cream. (Just another semi related observation.)
More active in the spring/summer
Another benefit of the sun is that in northern climates (Toronto, Canada), dark winter days do not encourage bursts of activity. For a lot of us, winter is a time of near hibernation.
But come springtime and eventually glorious, glorious summer, we shed our layers of bulky clothing, expose our sun deprived epidermis to the elements and get outside.
Thank (insert deity here) for the summer sun.
I am heading outside for a run. Maybe you should put down the Wii Fit - http://healthhabits.wordpress.com/2008/06/19/wii-fit-a-workout-for-the-fattest-generation/ - and get outside and do the same.
