New Book on Lyme Disease Takes Controversial Stance

NEJM'S SHAME & OLD BOY JUNK SCIENCE
In years past one would be honored to be in the NEJM, since it was among the top 10 Medical Journals in English. I would not submit my next cancer "cure" to them if offered $50,000. Why? They posted a sloppy, naive and poorly researched polemic that was historic as a clinically useless piece on the old IDSA political rigid material, designed by 16 filtered physicians which is supposed to guide 800,000 MD's and 300 Americans. Some in the IDSA society were excluded since they were not intellectual clones, and the "guideline" process is a piece of sadistic objectification, since anyone with real experience knows that no two patients is ever treated the same. And where is their work on immune suppressive Bartonella, now up to 32 unique species? Where is their work on advanced testing and blind method curative treatments for Babesia? Only one book in English offers more than a pitiful 3 images on Babesia. This NEJM article and IDSA have been utterly IMPEACHED by a stunning CT Attorney General decision, and it would be best if these old boys just got out of the way. They have proven how to sift research. And how to harm and possibly kill by giving insurance companies a simplistic view of tick infections--one infection and one month. So easy. So simple. So useless. They actually think they will win this debate. Really? Please go write something worth reading like the information in this book, or the devastating Cure Unknown by the Discover Editor P. Weintraub, who should make any humble person know it is time to stop speaking.
SUPER NARROW REPORT
Chronic Lyme Disease exists.
Your duty is to bring to the table information and comments from BOTH sides of the controversy not one.
I got bitten by a tick and went to the ER with terrible symptoms, was not treated because of not having the rash.
Later on an Infectious Disease Specialist told me after LOOKING on my back at a bump the tick bite left that:
NO BULL"S EYE RASH NO LYME, and NEGATIVE bloodwork means NO LYME.
To make the story short, not only Lyme but several other tickborne infections showed in my system, among them Cat Scratch Fever, Ehrlichia, etc
Let's assume it is not lyme since my bloodwork was negative (lyme bloodtest are unreliable) at this ID's office, but what about testing for other tickborne infections since he in fact saw the tick bite and I had symptoms??? NOP!! I was just dismissed!
OHH BTW that happened 8 years a go!!
Beating Lyme: Book Review
Instead of hailing this book as a "how to" to beat Lyme, the reviewer
wastes words on touting the IDSA side of the controversy, instead of portraying the value of this book for people like me, who failed the IDSA recommended so-called cure.
You do a disservice to the many thousands of us suffering due to the IDSA 's treatment guidelines and their nefarious motives for denying and restricting the definition of our illness.
The reviewer could easily end up needing this book. There is an undeniable epidemic out there!
If not chronic Lyme then what do I have?
If I don't have chronic Lyme then what do I have?
Why am I dizzy all the time?
Why do my hands and legs shake?
Why do my joints ache?
Why did I sleep 17 hours out of the last 24?
Why do I have major digestive issues?
Why do my muscles twitch?
why do I have a sore throat most of the time?
Why have I almost lost the ability to handwrite?
Why am I confused all of the time?
Why is that when I have a soda or anything with sugar I feel lightheaded?
Why don't I wake up feeling refreshed after 10 hours of sleep?
If anyone wants to say that this is not chronic infection PLEASE give me a hint as to the source of my symptoms are.
More and more people are getting Lyme and they aren't recovering with the treatment protocol. Eventually this will be a problem we can't ignore.

Sick of the word "controversy"
So, this was supposed to be a book review, but it turned into a propaganda piece for the other side, the side that thinks this disease, unlike others, is cured by a set amount of meds. Feder doesn't know anything about chronic lyme because he doesn't treat it. Instead he condemns his patients to endless suffering and inadequate symptomatic treatment. So, why is he the expert being interviewed?
The way journalists dispose of unwanted viewpoints is to label them controversial. The kiss of death, and end of rational discussion. The code word for kook views. What does it take to get an honest story in the media about lyme?
lyme
Long term antibiotic worked for me and this treatment works for a lot of people but you have to keep taking them. I did IV for 6 month's and I am better because of it. The total treatment period for me was 4 years. The Doctor above has told kids that they aren't sick and another doctor has treated them and they are better today.
where are your journalists?
Please ask the real lyme experts at ILADS who have treated thousands of late-stage or chronic patients. These experts were not included in your research. The artlce also failed to mention the importance of evaluation and treatment for co-fections that common accompany lyme. Babesia, Erlichia, Bartonella, RMSF. Everyone should know what those are.
There are researchers at ILADS, and elsewhere, who have studies about the life-cycle of a spirochte such as Bb, the one that causes lyme. Combination therapy to address the various stages and forms of Bb must be used. Otherwise, just one antibiotic can put the infection into a cyst form, waiting to come back. Please look at www.ilads.org - see the articles and presentations. And this is a call to all journalists: the IDSA has faced legal action on their lyme guidelines. The Atty. Gen. of CT recently found serious flaws with how they have conducted themselves, forcing them to reconsider the way they do business. My guess is that they will still ignore this. It's up to citizens to become educated. And we need the journalists to tell the real stores and not always end with the doctors who are not at all educated in the matter themselves. www.ilads.org - if you want to learn more.
narrow report
Why doesn't your writer interview a Lyme expert who has successfully treated long-term Lyme sufferers with extended antibiotic therapy? The author also fails to mention studies that prove the Lyme spirochete continues to exist in these chronic Lyme patients after the short term antibiotic therapy ends. Furthermore, there are Lyme patients that may not show improvement after 30 days of treatment, but after 90 days or more, do exhibit great improvement. So on day 31 we need to call it something else? These people need to open their minds.
