Shingles Vaccine

Will Medicare pay for the Shingles Vaccine

Shingles

Why is the magic number for shingle innoculation age 60? I have been checking and have found a number of my contacts that are under age 60 that have already contacted shingles. There experiences were not pleasant. I asked my health care provider yesterday about how much the shot costs. They quoted me $300. Why the big discrepancy in cost? I think this is a very important vaccination to consider. Why is it so selective?

chickenpox/shingles vaccine

My friend has shingles. I don't remember ever having chickenpox and I understand that I could catch chickenpox from him. I recently got a shingles vaccination. Will this protect me from both chicakenpox and shingles?

Shingles vaccination

I'd like to get a shingles vaccination but my OBGYN does not offer the shot. When can I get this vaccination?

shigles

I had a shingles vaccine 6 months ago. 2 weeks ago I recieved a flu shot. Yesterday I started a painful rash on my right rib cage. Could I have shingles???

shingles vaccine and Medicare D coverage

Just thought i would help with the "does Medicare cover shingles injections questions" I had to do some research for my mom who is 81 and had a recent bout of shingles (first time)

The doctors office offered to research coverage for her and quite frankly didnt do the best job....I looked thru moms Medicare and You book that is sent out yearly...it stated that Medicare D (your medicare drug plans) MUST cover certain innoculations INCLUDING SHINGLES VACCINE....(ie Medicare A / B will not cover it but Medicare D will! ) You will probably have to do what i did and look on the back of your Medicare D card find the customer service number and ask them how to get reimbursed for a vaccine shot at your doctors office. (i happen to work in a pharmacy and we cannot obtain the shot in a retail pharmacy due to its need for a constant temperature and shipping regulations. Her Medicare D plan sent me a form that my doctor will have to fill out for re-embursement (as we had to pay for the shot up front before MD would order it) and we then get full refund of the cost of the shot from Medicare D plan for the shot (althought Doctor can charge extra for adminstering the shot. Hope this helps but really call the number on the back of your Medicare D card and ask them for help..most health departments will also help order if your family doc wont.

shingles

Will Blue Cross and Blue Shield of florida pay anything toward the cost?

contagious or not

This article asserts that shingles is not contagious. If not, what would be the purpose of getting an immunity shsot????

Also wife was just diagnosed only one day ahead of having elective gall bladder removal

(just to cover possibility that gall bladder was diskinetic (no stones).

Probably 45K in tests done and almost an unecessary gall bladder removal (dangerous in herr case) and all after one doctor had suspected possibility of shingles but saw no symptoms.

Seems to me the medical protocol should be different, at lease by spacing investigative tests farther apart while waiting for possibilities of shingles lesions appearing.

Seems like some sort of test of nerve complex housing shingles virus couild be done to look for the virus, even tho no lesions yet to give indication it might be logicala to wait longer on tests, ie wait longer for lesions to appear.

Just some ideas for what they are worth. Im not a doctor or med person at all, but I do have good analytical ideas. I have another idea as to how to develop a "probability chart" of shingles when lesions dont show so that feasibility of test delays can be determined. DK
