Statins disabled me
I was given statins for cholesterol and high blood pressure and they wrecked the mujscles and nerves in my legs. The drug company said there could be serious side effects but they were RARE. Big Lie. I saw other people leaning on shopping carts like I was, and they named the same statins. I had to use a cane and get a driver-helper. Those drugs ended my former good health when I could do everything for myself. The terrible part is that I was not allowed to have dentistry unless I took the statins.
Statins
If statins "arrest" further cholesterol formation they may be more beneficial for younger patients so that the plaques don't form in the first place.
Genetics plays a big role in how siblings metabolize dietary intake of foods that encourage triglyceride and cholesterol formation as well as a tendancy for Type II diabetes. A glance at family health history could indicate susceptibility. Tobacco use also enhances vascular degredation.
The best possible treatment for hyperlipidemia is discretionary dietary selection of foods, portion control, and exercise.
Answer the question!
The answer is NO, they do not deplete cholesterol deposits. At best, they MAY stop the deposition of additional cholesterol.
I don't understand why a patient who is atherosclerotic can't be given HDL in an IV drip. Screw the statins.
