Having done research in some depth including a study in India using lab rats, I am convinced that BPA is what caused my breast cancer. I was going to praise Eden Organics for their decision to use cans lined with something safe, but another poster beat me to it. I am not an emplyee, just a fan. I am glad the word is finally getting around about this toxic plastic. It is screwing up out reproductive system big time. It need to be banned.

Are there safe plastics? I have heard not to use #2,5 and 7 plastics.

Their cans are lined with a natural substance rather than plastic. Eden's Organic spends hundreds of thousands of dollars extra each year to do this, but the cans are not lined with a synthetic plastic.

I make a special trip to the Whole Foods grocery store to purchase their products, specifically for this reason.

Bisphenol A or BPA

I bought two coloured water bottles from Katmandu outlet. I have just read the article from the NZ Herald dated December 3, 2008. I looked under the bottles and lo, number 7 and 'PC' recycling tag on the bottom. This is how you can identify plastics that have BPA. From the Herald report: "The difference between the Government response and the in-the-field response couldn't have felt more compelling when I asked John Reeve from the NZ Food Safety Authority if he would feel comfortable feeding his child with a BPA baby bottle. His reply, 'It wouldn't worry me at all'. But when I asked Canterbury University's Dr Shaw, a leader in the field, he didn't hesitate. 'Absolutely and categorically no.' I'm listening to Dr Shaw.

Being a retired chief engineer in mission success and failure analysis, I am familiar with some subtle annomalies.

If it is not cost prohibitive, I suggest that each major brand of vegetables, especiallt those that are highly acidic, e.g.,tomatoes and sauses, etc. be tested in a controlled environment for BPA. The federal governmewnt has only in recent years placed expiration dates on metal canned goods. Choose the ones that are appraching the expiration date and run the scientific and recognmized test, and also with maximum allowed stored temperature, on thousands of samples to make the results valid. Give the results to an unbaised agency for their recommendation.

BPA

I am surprised the health insurance companies have not played an active role in this controversy. The studies have indeed proved the harmful effects of BPA and especially in low doses. If this health hazard was reduced, the insurance companies would save money and premiums would not or should not rise as fast as they have been. Certainly Medicare, and Medicaid would save money and the VA health care system would save resulting in savings in tax dollars.

The FDA during the Bush administration, has not protected the people but quite the contrary; they have allowed poisons to be marketed with no limit.

It's time for "the people" to take a more active role in self protection and contact their representatives in congress, demanding their health be protected and the FDA be investigated.

This is in our foods in part of the government and the medical industry to get us to bow down to them once the government removes it and its too late and every one has cancer and goes to doctors.

enought to strike against these product. Aren't we sick and tired of being poisoned so these industries, especially the plastic industry, can make money off us while they kill us with cancer! Let's all send a message and stop buying these products!
