Diets and Money

The best foods and diets in America cost the most money. Ironically, the richest people who eat the best often wonder why all people don't eat the way they do. Who are the real brain dead??

Walnuts

IS WALNUT OIL FULL OF OMEGA 3'S OR DOES THE PROCESSING CHANGE THAT? THANKYOU

Are omega 3 fats worth the price of extinction?

I urge people to get their omega 3 fatty acids from plant sources, not fish. Blue fin tuna is heading toward extinction and many fish species are on a decline. Farmed shellfish destroy mangrove swamps and farmed salmon pollute the water with their feces. Many greens including purslane are high in omega 3 fatty acids. The mediterranean diet of Crete is high in wild greens containing omega 3 fatty acids. People from Crete also eat the meat of animals fed grass, not grains. Avoid grain finished beef and choose grass-fed cattle whose flesh contains more omega 3 fatty acids.

CHIA

Sean H, you are so right about this whole grain super food! I am waiting for it to get the recognition it deserves. Its shelf life is also much longer than that of flax seed.

Have we forgotten Chia

Without getting into the whole debate over EPA DHA and ALA, I think that many people will find that Mila (Chia) is an amazing food that is so rich in Omega 3's (3000 mg/serving, has no taste or odor, is gluten free and loaded with fiber, antioxidants and protein plus a whole lot more. If you currently take fish oil or flax, you havce to give this a try. Read more about it at www.mykindofgrain.com It gives new meaning to the word 'super-food"!

Omega's

A while back I heard a lecture from the PCRM (physicians committe for responsible medicine). It was about diet. The take home from that lecture was that fish are vegitarians, and that is why they have the omega. We could also eat green vegtables and get omega. Thank you

Avocados

I believe that avocados are high in Omega 3's as well

Same Point Martin

I had the same question when I first finished this article.. What ABOUT supplements???

There are many out there that can help you from GNC, to any found at Whole Foods, even online (my choice of preference for my busy lifestyle- Neurovi, com's Omega 3 dietary supplement :) )I might even think Walgreen's has one.

I do however enjoy salmon but am a little intimidated on how to serve it. Of course nothing can compare to going right to the source but choosing a high quality supplement is key to come pretty close!

Granola

I see nuts and seeds listed but you didn't mention granola bars. Some all natural granola bars (I eat Zoe's http://www.zoefoods.com/ and know they have them) have flax seed. Just thought I'd share. Great article!

Omega 3 fish oil capsules

What about the supplements you can take in a capsule?

A 1000 mg omega 3 fish oil capsule daily

might be just a good for you.

But how do they compare to eating the foods
