I just had a stent and now I am wondering if I had the right thing done. It seems as if lot of people are having lot of problems. And wondering why doctors don't explain more to you and give you a choice of what kind of stent.

I have not been feeling very good and am having chest pain already and it has just been a week since I had the stent put in.

I really am not looking forward to having this done again like a lot of people have said.

13 STENTS & 1 TRIPLE BYPASS LATER

I just had 3 stents "installed' on August 2. I have had stents several times since June of 2005, just to have them occlude within several weeks usually. So then I had a triple bypass in October of 2007 hoping that would resolve the problem, but within 8 weeks I knew something was wrong and by January I was back in the hospital with the bypass arteries all blocked. I had not even recovered from the bypass yet. I had stents in January, June, and August of this year (13 total now). The June stenting did not go well and I ended up back in the hospital within 2 days with severe hives from an allergy to the stents. It was a nightmare. I had been rushed to a trauma hospital with a major heart attack and they used stents I had not had before. This latest stent is a Promus and I have only been home 1 week, but I sure hope this is the answer to my prayers for a while. I do not know how many stents a person is able to have, but I really feel I have had enough.

Stents and nickle

I am wondering if stents are made with the metal hardening agent, nickle. I am allergic to nickle (I can only wear 14 karat gold, or better). Many women suffer from this allergy and know it almost immediately if they wear cheap earrings. Could stents be causing inflammation of the arteries in some patients?

stent

just had the new prommus stent put in on juky24th dont know much about it yet doees anyone know anthing about if it is good or not? the arterie was 99% blocked dont make sense was only blocke 50% in dec last year.

Sound like good news to me!

To Ann Marie, I'm happy to hear that you have had no problems with your stents. However, this is good news to those of us who make up the 15.4 percent who did have problems with the old stents. I received my stent about a year ago at age 49 following a mild heart attack. Despite having "optimal" HDL and LDL, AND regularly taking Plavix and asprin, AND participating faithfully in cardiac rehab, I developed in-stent restenosis about 6 months after the stenting. The doctors have emphasized that the new blockage was unrelated to diet, exercise, or medication, therefore there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. They did angeoplasty inside the stent in hopes that would clear the blockage and have charted a course of options for me if that doesn't work. The last course of action is a bi-pass. And while its a lifesaver for many, I'd like to avoid that if there is any way possible. I don't know that the doctors will use this new stent if they find my blockage has returned, but its good to hear they are working on additional options.

Sirolimus eluting stents

I am a 54 year old aerobics instructor of 28 years and an insulin dependant diabetic since age 12. I have six sirolimus eluting stents as of a year and a month ago. I have four in one artery and two in another. Prior to stenting,I have always had normal cholesterol, LDL and high HDL. My BP and weight were always excellent. My cardiac cath testing showed my 80 and 90 percent blockages in those arteries, but I never felt any pain or symptoms prior to the stenting. I am also a special ed teacher full time.

I am tired of h earing about the deaths, heart attacks, and the like of people having sirolimus or other eluting stents. I have had not one issue in 13 months post surgery and can exercise for longer periods now than ever before. I am on Plavix and aspirin and my only complaint is bruising always. Also, I do not think that the statistics for the new eluting stent is that much better than mine. 11% versus 15% is not such a difference. Let's face it, if the newer ones were 2% versus 15%, I would think differently. Anyone on the Cypher Cordis stents do not fret, keep up with the Plavix and aspirin for more than one year according to the world renowned cardiologists at the Brigham and Women in Boston where I go.Optimism is great for the heart.

plavix cost and need with stents

COMPLIANCE is the crucial component here and the cost for Plavix needs to improve too. Please get the proper generic version out there so compliance improves.

Stents

I am wondering how much the reaction of one's body has in regards to the effectiveness and/or re-clogging after a stent.

In Sept.1996, I had a bare metal stent put into my LAD, after a 98% blockage. I have been on a low fat (not severe) heart healthy diet, exercise (cardio and resistance training) three evenings a week every since and have never had any problems. I've had three invasive procedures since, to check on other things (which all proved negative) and they confirmed the stent is still open and functioning nicely.

Just adding my two cents....that's all.
