statin damage
It is a relief although sad to know I am not alone with my ongoing problem of statin damage and I too have great difficulty trying to a) Get the correct treatment to ease my condition and support as I have been unable to work for the last 2 years, and b)trying to prove that I have statin damage, yet I have had more blood tests , urine tests, x rays , scans, and hospital appointments than I have had in my entire life and I am 58 !
I am sure the medical profession would jump for joy to find some other cause for my ill health, they want the best for their patients but oh...if only they could show humility and admit the real cause. I am not out to sue anyone, though liver tests were not carried out yearly, it was not until May 2008 after me having been on Simvistatin 40mg. since 2005 that I had a liver function test and it showed an abnormality that the hospital doctor who then performed an ultra sound scan said showed fatty liver and this combined with what my liver test showed seeemed to him to be statin induced that I received a more sympathetic ear to my pain , weakness, breathlessness etc.,yet still they are reluctant to acknowledge it is statin induced!
So we keep on fighting for an answer so others will not have their lives ruined too.
All the best for now

Vytorin
I agree with all of what has been written above--having gone through hell (low dose Vytorin), been tested for horrible diseases, having had doctors dismiss muscle cramps (although, after the fact, I read that the World Health Organization wrote in 2002 that muscle cramps were side effects along with pain and weakness). My CPK was barely, barely raised, but raised no red flags with the doctors I saw.
Muscle Damage from Statins
I'm sorry to all readers whom suffer muscle damage after taking statins but try having statin induced ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease. Europe has already proven this but for the FDA and AMA here in the states, this isn't true... oh, but it is! My mother died from this and all of us in our family know this to be a fact, no matter what the doctors or pharmaceutical co say. We will never take a Statin drug! We are just thankful that another part of our earth also thought this may be a possibility and now it's a proven fact. Why does America hide behind Insurance companies and Pharmaceutical companies? -It's because of the almighty dollar and these companies buy off everyone, rule our lives, and decide if we live or die. Sad but true!
Muscle Loss with Statins
Doctors never tell their patients that it is absolutely essential for patients on cholesterol drugs to take a good quality Co Enzyme Q10 or Ubiquinol as the statin drugs reduce that enzyme in the body to dangerous levels, and that is why patients get this irreversible muscle damage.
Sincerely Yours

Statins
If you have muscle pain or weakness, GET OFF THE STATINS. The research is in. Read Beatrice Galomb UCD. Her studies are the only ones of their kind. Researchers and physicians alike are terrified to question statin use. Why?? Because the big pharmaceuticals fund the studies - do you think they are going to fund any study that is bent on proving the destructive qualities of their drugs?
Statins interfere with the Mavalonate Pathway, a normal function of the body that produces cholesterol ( good and bad )and other important natural substances ( like thromboxane - necessary in clotting function). Buyer Beware when your Doctor pressures you to interfere with natural bodily functions that have evolved over eons.
There has been muscle damage confirmed in almost all who take statins ( Google Draeger/Statins ). READ, READ, READ.
tx options for myalgia/ myopathy
Are there any treatment options for those suffering from the myopathy caused by statin therapy? Physicians seem to be at a loss as how to help a patient suffering from myalgia/myopathy. They want to lable with a diagnosis such as Parkinson Disease, ignoring the myopathy, especially when there is a normal CPK level. Neurofeedback, biofeedback and intensive massage by liscenced professionals seems to help aleviate some symptoms, but is very slow and time-intensive. The AMA should get to it and educate our US docs about myopathy and statins and quit hiding behind the drug companies and their hidden agendas while millions of people are taking statin drugs and experiencing myalgia and myopathy. Many docs are standing by and ignoring the complaints of their patients, not even suspending the stain therapy in light of symptoms of myalgia/myopathy, just because they get a normal CPK on the patient. What about the part of the hypocratic oath, "First, do no harm."?. What good is a low cholesterol level when you can't complete ADL, or enjoy a mobile quality of life. Shame on those physicians who don't listen to their patients' concerns and cause harm to them. What is the next step for those who have experienced muscle damage through statin therapy?
zocor
My dr. put me on zocor over a year ago, after 2 months I began having prob. with my leg muscle's. He said not to worry, so kept on taking it for another three months. My pharm. told me to stop when I told him my prob. with muscle's (now all over my body). I had two months of physical therapy made me feel good, but didn't help with ache's.was referred to rhumatoligist and he said was the zocor that was my problem and would take at least 6 months to make better. Said I could get back to 95% of where I was befor zocor. I guess I am one of the 2% of people on statin's that have this bad reaction. I am soooo sorry now that I ever took the stuff.
