Wrong, Wrong, Wrong
This is all wrong. Why don't these "researchers" forget their expensive studies and talk to us like adults? I turned 21 today and I can tell you for a fact that none of the "solutions" offered in this article would have made me drink any less in college.
You want us to quit drinking and driving? Provide a way for us to get to the bar and get home that is economical (we are on college budgets here and the cab ride can often cost double what the drinks did) and easily accessible. The country needs better public transportation anyway right?
Please stop thinking that setting the drinking age at 21 has kept younger people from drinking and driving intoxicated. You want to crack down on DUIs? Make harsher laws against DUIs specifically. The fact that the law says we cannot drink until 21 is often reason enough to do it. Remember when you were 18 lawmakers? I know it was a long time ago but you were just like us.
These archaic restrictions on drinking are sustained by legislators over the age of 40. We, as the next generation set to handle the astronimical debt your generation has put us in, are tired of being pushed around by people that assume they know what we want and need. TALK TO US. Please?
