Depression Hits 1 in 13 American Adults

The topic of clinical depression should have "top billing" as the nation tackles health care reform. Depression hits 1 in 13 American adults DURING THE PAST YEAR, but there actually is a far-higher lifetime risk of 17%, almost 1 in 5. Clinical depression strikes approximately 21% of women and 12% of men, is usually episodic and recurrent if untreated, and is the nation's second-most costly disorder. It is time to wage a national war against depression and bipolar disorders.
