Increased melatonin may be cause...
I sent the following to the journal: "Melatonin is low in individuals who exhibit migraines. It is my hypothesis that low melatonin triggers a high response of DHEA periodically in these individuals and it is this increase in DHEA that causes the migraines.
Increased ambient temperature reduces melatonin. I suggest the findings of Mukamal, et al., may be explained by reduced melatonin during times of increased ambient temperature."
Migraines, Weather, and Miracles......
Thank you Randy for studying and assembling info on the various origins of migraine headaches.
Much of what you write makes sense.......from caffeine in-take or reduction, air pressure, certain foods, high levels of estrogen or not enough progesterone, and, lack of sleep ......
I would add, based on experience, that other causes could also be allergies, a dehydrated body, a diet that is more acidic than alkaline, and, not enough exercise.........
Sometimes, a migraine may result because of more than one of these factors.......
It's a miracle when we can outgrow migraines altogether...... staying calm and breathing deeply really helps......
Hope your article assists those who are on a path of discovery so they can understand what their individual triggers are and, as the article suggests, take extra care .....
Blessings, WJ

Re: junk science at its best
But that is not what they are saying. It is not hot weather per se, but a rise in temperature from what one might expect for that day/time of the year.
Since I do get headaches on a particularly warm winter day or an exceptionally hot summer day, I have known this to be true for a while now.
Red wine is another trigger as is lack of sleep.
Coffee consumption plummets during hot weather
Caffeine withdrawal is a demonstrated cause of severe headache. During hot weather, consumption of coffee decreases. Any abrupt decrease in caffeine intake increases the chance of caffeine withdrawal headache.
Weather-related headache is bimodal; that is, some people report an increase in headaches associated with hot weather, other people report an increase in headache associated with cold weather. This is readily explained by the fact that some people get most of their caffeine from hot drinks such as coffee and tea, others get most of their caffeine from cold drinks, primarily soda pop and iced tea. People who get most of their caffeine from hot drinks may tend to decrease their caffeine consumption during hot weather. People who get most of their caffeine from cold drinks may tend to decrease their caffeine consumption during cold snaps.
