Much remains unknown about these treatments for menopausal symptoms, FDA says

How the FDA opperates natural hormones
I have been taking compounded hormones for about 2 months now and what a diffrence. I now have the energy to excercise I walk for about 35 to 45 minutes 6 days a week. I also have noticed
very vivid dreams which before I had none. I have lost about 8 pounds. (last I checked) and about the FDA I know first hand how (worked in pharmacutical research) they operate they are
controlled by the drug companys they are not independent they pass drugs that should never be passed threw to the public.
they are affraid themselves to go against the drug company's for fear of their jobs. So you want to know how all the drugs get passed $$$$$ !! you can bet that if they want to pull the natural hormone the company's behind the other hormones are leading the way for the FDA . I love my natural compounded hormones no more sleepless nights !!!
Bioidentical Hormones
My doctor prescribed a compounding cream for me when the pill form upset my stomach. I have been using a low dose cream (testosterone, estrogen and progesterone)for a year now and I feel great! I no longer have hot flashes and I sleep much better! I do not know if I will use this forever but it is working for me. I have regular check ups and watch my diet and I exercise 6 days a week.
The FDA
I really hope someone of some kind of importance reads our comments. The FDA has been bought by the Pharmaceautical companies. They have the people so afraid of trying something that the FDA hasn't approved. What about the people who died taking FDA Approved drugs????
Huge difference!!
I have just begun using bioidentical hormones. I took Premarin for years after a hysterectomy and then stopped taking hormones all together for years. I was experiencing symptoms such as join pain, swelling, headaches, being cold all the time, etc..and after just a few days I am seeing a difference.
Hormones and Frozen Shoulder
After having my ovaries removed, I suddenly suffered from frozen shoulder. Went from my left shoulder to my right shoulder. Finally had to have my right shoulder cleaned out surgically. Continue to have many joint issues the are unexplainable. Taking low dose of Premarin and thinking about moving to BHRT after watching Dr. Phil's wife Robin discuss it on his show. Trouble is, it's not covered by my insurance. Anyone know what the cost of it is?
Tired of people who think they know what is best for me...
First I'm going to say I'm tired of "men" who think they know what I'm going through for menopause. There is no "norm", nor is there a standard way to treat women that are going through this.
I'm tired of hearing rats get cancer because they had too much hormone replacement therapy. I'm tired of hearing this pill causes weight gain. I'm tired of hearing that bio-identical hormone therapy is not approved by FDA. What I want to hear is that people are researching how to give our lives back to us. The idea that we are all looking for that magic cure that will make us feel better. And that has been going on for years. It's no wonder that women were locked up in sanitariums in olden days.
I believe some serious consideration needs to be taken in regards to women hormones. We are discovering more about post partum blues, menopause that lasts from age 40 to 60, and now I'm reading in this article that the FDA is concerned about what bio-identical hormone therapy will do. I think their main concern is how to regulate this. The other is as our food continues to be processed, does it have the ingredients to help us to be healthy. With all of the claims that are on the market, are they really helping or hurting us.
Recently there are claims that Oprah and Robin McGraw have discovered how to make their lives whole again. The sad thing is Oprah and Robin have money to find the right doctor. A lot of us don't and we suffer. Maybe they are helping us find cures we all have desperately needed.
Even in these times of recession, women will continue to spend money in regards to their health and that includes diet and hormone therapy. Maybe the government will allow research to be done to help us become valued in our homes again.
If "Men" had to go through the hormone changes like women do, they would be making this their #1 concern. How many women need to continue to suffer? We deserve to be vital to our families and friends. We expect to be valued in our role as care givers. And we should demand that something be done that will make our lives whole again.
weight gain
I've been on bio identical hormones for 9 months now and have gained 15 lbs. that I can only attribute to using them. I am very frustrated and I don't feel any better than I did before I started taking them. Now my thyroid is low functoning. What am I to do?
Who care what the FDA says!!
I am really unconcerned what the FDA has to say..my dr put me on paxil and it was great for a while but the weight gain was ridiculous. THe FDA has approved many drugs that they later pulled off.. i will never trust thier opinion or for them to care for my safety cause obviously they dont!
BHRT for frozen shoulder
I've had frozen shoulder for 8 months, and am wondering if hormones have something to do with it. I am 53, I have no libido, so I know I have hormone issues. I have also always been weak in my adrenals and thyroid, and I know those organs are also involved in producing hormones. Women tend to get frozen shoulder more than men and get it between ages of 40-60, which points to hormones. Also, frozen shoulder is seen most often in women with diabetes and thyroid issues, which also points to hormones. I have read that high estrogen weakens connective tissue, and this points directly to hormones. I am reading Suzanne Somers book right now, but am heading down this path, writing down questions as I go. I was just wondering what other people thought of this connection - no one I've talked to has put the 2 together... has anyone out there heard of this... the correlation between hormone imbalance and frozen shoulder?
Getting and keeping a BHRT prescription
Much of this article confuses over the counter hormones, which are not regulated, with genuine, prescribed B-HRT, which is a shame. I found out about B-HRT (micronized and compounded estrogen and progesterone from yams) from a female gynecologist in 1995. I have been on them ever since, and my current gynecologist insists they do not cause cancer like Wyeth's Premarin (which is estrogen taken from the urine of pregnant mares pre-mar-in) or Provera, which is NOT pregesterone, but progestin, an articifial hormone not found in nature.
Because I am now 50, I attempted to cut back anyway, and experienced a horrendous side effect NO ONE talks about: lichen sclerosis. When I visited my primary care physician, she said the only way to stop the suffering was to take the former dose. She also expressed less concern over my taking B-HRT long term.
I highly recommend you talk to the pharmacists at Women's International Pharmacy. They have improved my quality of life for over 15 years. I will do anything to keep genuine, prescribed and regulated B-HRT available and LEGAL. Wyeth, and all their sponsored studies of HRT only, be damned!
