Zone Bar Recall
I ate a peanut butter zone bar everyday at about 9 am for a quick pick me up......Sometimes I would get a queasy feeling in my intestines and thought I was sickly. I had to make sure I was near a bathroom when I went anywhere.....little did I know I was being poisoned...Now that I eat a different Zone bar I feel good again....I did not suspect the protein bar but did suspect my luncheon meat that was cut at the local food store deli counter. I had my wife change the type of meat for my lunch but it did not help and on several occasions I would get a dose of diarrhea and have to get to a clean bathroom asap....I feel a whole lot better now.. I hope that processing plant rots in hell....
Might as well get rid of Firemen too.
If the politicians whatever their bent don't begin to care about the health and welfare of our people what the hell are they doing? We have to give the USDA and the FDA and other Inspection servoces the personel and the Teeth they need to inforce the laws that are already on the books. Why isn't all food inspected before it leaves the producer? There has to be enormous amounts of money changing hands to avoid changes in the current lax ways of doing business
Bush
Bush is to blame for all of this. I just know it. I am a parent of three and one of them has caught salmonella. I have spent nights crying myself to sleep. My daughter is only 5 years old!!! She is terrible in health right now. All it took was one little decision for Bush to make: close down the peanut factory. but no, he would rather see little children die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bush's fault?
It is not Bush's fault in the sense that he actually told someone down the chain of command to leave a dirty peanut plant alone, but instead it is the whole conservative philosophy of less regulation which leads some companies to get lazy for the simple fact that nobody is looking.
Inspections
I agree with Mark of NM. It would be nice to find out what did happen as a result of the plant violations cited. Sad to say I have heard to often from friends of mine who are conscientious food inspectors that they are frequently told to back off from higher ups when a violator calls a State politician who then brings pressure to bear on the department, demanding that an inspector either tone down an unfavorable report or to change it. Of course, when this backfires and someone dies, as what happened in this case, the politician(s) in question usually forget about the pressure they applied and the inspector in question, being low on the food chain, is reprimanded or fired.
Sad to say there is just a whole lot of dodging of responsibility throughout the food industry and the regulatory oversight thereof, as there is most everywhere else you look, the finance industry for example.
The Last Administration's Fault??
Are you honestly writing that the outbreak was Bush's fault? Please.
Paranoia
Well comrade? What planet are you from anyway. The last administration brought us to this point, and for your childrens sake, lets hope the new adminisration can fix it. I know several people who work in government, and they all take their jobs seriously. No real Americans are going to throw in the towel. Maybe the problems we are seeing actually are from lack of oversight and the limitations of current guidelines.
Rodents in the peanut warehouse
Well know we know the plant "had a history of health-inspection violations. Health inspectors found any number of serious violations in numerous areasof the plant. What did they do about these violations? Did they just ignore them, throw them away or bury them in the burocracy? Peanut processors are inspected by the FDA. Why did the FDA not issue an out of compliance report to the company. Why after informing the owners of the diffencies was the plant not reinspected or closed if it failed to correct the problems. Is the FDA just as big a problem as the peanut company? It is not acceptable for the FDA to meerly report epidemics of salmonella after contaminated products which they are responsible for are made available to the public. Is the director of the FDA a former lobbyist for the peanut industry? Has a representative or senator from the state of Georgia put pressure on the FDA to bury the inspection reports?
The public should demand answers to these questions. People have died and somebody is responsible
Sad news for the small town
Working in the Food Service industry, it's hard for me to understand how something like this occurs. The cleanliness guidelines are clear and easy to understand. Sometimes people get lazy and ignore basic procedure to prevent this type of situation. Ken, please leave the US. If you are for real, I feel sorry for you. Hopefully you are just one of the worthless punks that posts that kind of socialist crud just to get a rise out of folks. You are wrong on so many levels that there isn't enough time or typing space allowed to clue you in on real life. Grow up and find something productive to do with your life. I hear Hamas is looking for a little short term help.
