health insurance for 21 year old
I need advice. My son is no longer a college student, due to financial strain. Is there a plan for him? He will be employed as a waiter at a restaurant. My plan is a family plan with Aetna but since he is not in college the costs are greater. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
Thank you
there are deals
Aetna Bodyguard seems too good to be true, offering plans that cover preventative and emergency health care, for the price that's usually only for one or the other. I wonder why that plan is only available for Illinois residents? Is there some type of subsidy? In Illiois, (and also NY I believe, Q Petersen) there is free women's health care along with free birth control and exams which you qualify for if you're (a woman..) unemployed, or a student not making much money.
Oh, gosh, isn't on the list? I'm shocked!
As usual, living in New York State is a liability. No coverage for dependent student children beyond age 22. Sorry, NY, but our child won't graduate her 4-year college until she's 24. Guess we'd better pray she stays healthy. The healthcare program offered by her college only serves her if she goes to the college clinic and is of no use if she's sick or injured while at home (200 miles away from school).
As usual, NY is tops in the nation for taxing it's citizens, but lagging behind in quality of life.
Healthcare is a Major Concern
Jobs lost, employers downsizing, small businesses going out of business and many employers cutting benefits to save their business from closing or to be able to pay their employees. Yes, healthcare is a hot topic but people need to be accountable for what they do to their bodies on a daily basis to prevent catastrophic events from happening. There are several people who fall through the cracks, have bad luck or just need coverage to get them through to the effective date of their new plan. Take a look at your current lifestyle and see if you can make healthy changes so you are not at such a big risk when you do lose coverage. Here is an insurance plan that offers a 30-day money back guarantee (if you need peace of mind for a month it's great). http://www.TrueBenefitSolutions.com
Affordable Health Insurance my eye!
Chris doesn't mention how valuable his commision is
by being a broker! It's the middle man that really
could be eliminated in some circumstances. Anyone
can research coverage!
Reform needed
Ooooh but Im boiling angry over this topic that has been way too long in discussion, and not eough action to help our SONS/DAUGHTERS who have previous conditions (who doesnt) and are (between 19 and any age) seeking employment, and/or out of work for periods of time. We live in a rural area in CA and find our young folks just fall through the cracks -- not eligle for ANYthing unless they have babies of their own and qualify that way somehow - ridiculous!!
This age group is woefully in need of continued healthcare as they are our future and tend not to care for themselves due to lack of affordable/accessible coverage and/or $$ to pay for it all. We expect them to cover themselves and we cant even cover ourselves should we ''cobra'' out - no 'affordable way'' to go.
Our young people cannot always be ''cobra=ed'' into insurances plans and do NOT make enough $$ in many situations to afford any kind of coverage that might include previous conditions.
About Healthcare
In my opinion we shouldt rid off private insurance companies that provide healthcare, and make healthcare public. Just like the Europeans, and all of us will have coverage. if we do it we will save many thousands in our pokets.
Generic and insufficient advise, Megan
I'm sorry, Megan, but your articles missing many large segments of people and situations. You have given some uniformed readers just enough information to be dangerous, and that is exactly what a few will be now to themselves, their families and their finances if they stick to your advise.
Health Insurance is very complex and should not be tackled by the average consumer alone. Yes, I am a license insurance professional, and I know from my years of experience how valuable an independent agent/broker is for the average consumer when shopping for coverage. They are experts and can help you find the best coverage the fit anyone's circumstances and budget.
Just note that 51% of all bankruptcies in the US every year are the result of unpaid medical bills. The majority of those people had no coverage or insufficient coverage.
It's frustrating to me that this valuable advice was conveniently left out of this article, but a good Agent on your side when shopping for health insurance is not just "recommended", it is critical!
Cobra Reform
Millions of Americans who lost their jobs prior to September 1, 2008 could not afford Cobra. Millions more elected Cobra but have now depleted their resources and can not continue on. Still millions more with pre-existing conditions who rely on cobra to bridge the 18 month gap between their former employers insurance and their state's high risk insurance pools are struggling to pay their premiums every month to prevent being locked out of insurance permanently.
Please join us in asking Congress and the Obama administration to eliminate the arbitrary September 1, 2008 cut-off date and 9 month limitation of assistance by signing our petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/cobrareform and telling your friends about our efforts.
