Just wanted to let you know AARP is NOT a health insurance company. The get paid by health insurance companies to "endorse" their products and market them to members of AARP. Choosing Plans
My 81-year-old mother is collecting information in order to change her Medicare insurance plan. Her current one is twice as expensive as most and pays less. (How did that happen?) I can say with assurance that we are not stupid people, but pouring through pages and pages of information seems to yield little help.
After looking at plan after plan, we see that Geisinger in Pennsylvania where my mother lives came in third in this report. After months of research we never came upon Geisinger.
Then I note that the Medicare plans on the list are all HMOs. As someone who has always had a PPO, I'm scared to death even to think about being enrolled in an HMO. And yet here we are. I am close to thinking this all is hopeless, largely because insurance lobbyists have written not only their plans, but also every health care law in America. It's shameful.

Rating medicare plans.
It would have been helpful if you compared data for traditional medicare with the Medicare HMO's to see how the origional and still largest compares.
Many of our patients get into managed care plans and then find their access to Physical and Occupational therapy severely limited.
