i disagree

As someone recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, i would comment that a prescription of metformin and a statin are risky and, in many cases, simply unwarranted. I would highly encourage anyone recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes to consider alternative solutions to pharmaceuticals such as Gynneme Sylvestre. My doctor prescribed metformin and a statin which i rejected and replaced with Gyneme. My A1C went from 11.5 to 6.7 in 3 months. The bottom line is pharmaceutical solutions are big money and not necessarily in the best interest of the patient. Consider your alternatives.

Diabetes

It is very important to get a first rate endocrinologist who will help you understand what diabetes is and how it affects you. My physician prescribed metformin and byetta, which I now take. I am also well aware of what my A1C should be (6.3 at last blood work) and also what foods affect my blood sugar the most. I get information from WEB MD, Johns Hopkins, The New York Times, and about 6 or 7 other sources. I could go on an on, but education is far and away the most important thing. Read, read and read further.

Enjoyed reading about type 2 diabetic.

I enjoyed reading the articales, great help.

As far as the exercise, I have a hard time standing up for long

time, my back and legs give out on me, must used a cane for

support, cause by a car accident.

tips for newly diagnosed diabetics

There are many things that people can do to reverse or prevent the diagnosis of type two diabetes. Paying special attention to magnesium intake is becoming more widely recognized as a primary preventive measure. Bisphenol A, the chemical found in many common plastics, is being found to contribute to obesity which can lead to metabolic syndrome, amongst other problems. Learn about these little known things and what to do to protect yourselves from diabetes and why you don't want to end up on insulin which is now being linked to cancers.

43 years on insulin and going strong

Not sure the reason, but after 43 years on insulin, I have none of the common consequences. My eyes, kidneys, circulation are all in the normal range. Experienced some pins and needles recently in my toes and had a vascular work up, came back normal. Yes I walk everyday with the wife. I mow the lawn twice a week. And I can't keep still. But I enjoy regular food and drink. I stay away from Diet drinks and foods. Why me? Only kidding, I feel very fortunate but wonder if I'm genetically better equipped to deal with diabetes. Anyone out there with a similar profile? 62 years old, 43 years on insulin and no problems. Hey I'm happy! Maybe that's it!

Diabetes and diet

You should be mindful about what you eat too. I saw a video about this at SaberHacer.com

Diabetes prevention and treatment

Apart from the dietary changes anyone with type 2 diabetes can make to improve their chances, if nothing changes, check out www.thelatestmedicaltreatment.com, which offers hope for anyone who is looking at kidney disease as a result of diabetes or hyper tension/high blood sugar. Treatment doesn't have to be expensive or complicated.

Good Article - Not Too Sure About Statins

Overall, the article offers good advice. One thing I am very cautious about is taking more medications. A short duration may be fine but the ones recommended for the rest of your life - beware.

My theory is first, adjust your diet. Next, increase your exercise. BTW, I like DiabetesHealthLink.com advice about strength training. Finally, as a result of one and two, hopefully you will begin to lose weight. Only as a final resort, add more medication to my regimen. Likewise, I am hesitant to start on Statins. I have doubts about long-term safety and frankly just don’t want yet-another-pill! While they tout statins as miracle drugs, they haven’t been around long enough to know the long term affect. In my opinion, the jury is still out.

Screen for pancreatic cancer

Get screened for pancreatic cancer. Talk to your doctor, it will probably mean a scan.. Pancreatic cancer has only a 3% 5- year survival rate. That is mostly because it is rarely diagnosed early enough for effective treatment. By the time it is caught, it has usually metastasized to other tissue and is incurable. Even the one-year survival rate is only 20%. Not to panic anyone, as only a very small percentage of diabetics will face a pancreatic cancer diagnosis - and the earlier, the better. Diabetes, however, is a strong indicator, especially in people who have never had a family history and who are at high risk (smoking, heavy drinking, and, especially unfairly, African descent).
