Babyfacts: Pediatrician Andrew Adesman on What Doctors Get Wrong

Even doctors fall for the myths; sugar really doesn't make kids hyper

Posted February 18, 2009

In the course of writing Babyfacts, you also polled some of your fellow pediatricians on Long Island about common myths. It turns out that more than half of the 40 you polled got 25 percent of the answers wrong. Were you surprised?
Absolutely. They're wrong on things like whether eating carrots improves your vision (it doesn't) and whether spinach is high in iron (it's not). The bottom line is that pediatricians should be better at educating parents. I'm now in the process of sending 5,000 surveys to pediatricians around the country. That will give me much stronger data.
